HEUVELTON, NY, March 04, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Vera Vest Ponko with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Ponko celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Ponko distinguished herself as a visual artist, particularly in the Art of Masonry. She initially became interested in her field after reading a magazine feature regarding an artist crafting stained-glass using nontraditional materials, including open bottles on exterior surfaces. Ms. Ponko was unimpressed by this concept of the work, citing that the bottles would whistle in the wind, plus eventually collect debris rendering the work unsightly, and began plans to cover them. Making several corrections and adaptations, Ms. Ponko is noted for working with her hands to sculpt colored glass bottles into mortar to create a multitude of distinctive windows as well as other unique pieces.

Ms. Ponko's vocation continued to expand after her initial projects to cover and repurpose used bottles, and she soon found her own work exploring similar spaces. Her artwork often incorporated mortar figurines which contained bottles, one 5 feet tall. Also, not afraid of even larger endeavors, she undertook the layout and fabrication for the walls and floor of a magnificent 6-foot walk-in shower constructed using mortar and unique bottles. Many of her completed works have been donated.

Ms. Ponko is a former museum docent-interpreter for the Frederic Remington Museum of Ogdensburg and currently affiliated with a visiting artist program focused on masonry and sculpture. She excelled as a teacher at the St Lawrence-Lewis BOCES School Systems throughout 2003. Her work has been displayed at a number of group and solo shows, most recently at the Gibson Gallery at the State University of New York in 2002. In her leisure time, Ms. Ponko enjoys such avocations as cooking, gardening, and masonry design.
