In 2010 Dr. A. Kenison Roy, III was selected for the Annual ASAM Award for Contributions and Leadership in Addiction Medicine.
METAIRIE, LA, March 04, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A. Kenison Roy, III has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. A distinguished fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine, Dr. Roy recently excelled as the founder and the medical director of Addiction Recovery Resources, Inc., a facility that provided a spectrum of addiction treatment services, including ambulatory detoxification, intensive outpatient treatment, addiction evaluations and much more. Additionally, he passes on his extensive knowledge to others as a clinical associate professor of psychiatry at Tulane University and the LSU School of Medicine. Dr. Roy also treats patients at East Jefferson General Hospital and has worked as the medical director of the Dual Diagnosis Unit at River Oaks Hospital. Dr. Roy has recently moved to the faculty of Tulane Medical School where he directs the Residency in Addition Medicine.
Previously, Dr. Roy utilized his considerable knowledge as a member of the drug policy board for Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. He retains his professional alignment with the American Society of Addiction Medicine, the American Psychiatric Association and the Louisiana Association of Addiction Counselors and Trainers. With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Roy has authored various studies and case reports on addiction, including "Genetic Addiction Risk Score (GARS)™, A Predictor of Vulnerability to Opioid Dependence," and co-authored several publications on addiction medicine alongside fellow scholar Dr. Michael Miller.
An expert in his field, Dr. Roy earned a Doctor of Medicine from Tulane University in 1972. He later completed an internship at Charity Hospital of Louisiana on the Tulane service. Subsequently, Dr. Roy obtained certifications through the American Board of Addiction Medicine, the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
In light of his outstanding accomplishments, Dr. Roy was presented with the Excellence in
Treatment Award from the Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse in 2006 and the Annual Psychiatric Leadership Award from the Louisiana Psychiatric Medical Association in 2008. In 2010 Dr. Roy was selected for the Annual ASAM Award for Contributions and Leadership in Addiction Medicine. He was also recognized as a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. And, he was honored as a Healthcare Hero by New Orleans City Business Magazine in 2008. Looking toward the future, Dr. Roy intends to experience continued success with educating physicians and the healthcare system in the recognition and appropriate treatment of addiction.
