Mr. Gaynor is a retired director of engineering at Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company (3M), where he was employed from 1962 to 1987. After many career advancements he served as Director of Engineering for 3M Europe and concluded his 25-year career as Director of Engineering for the Worldwide Operations of the Graphic Technologies Sector. Upon retirement Gaynor found success as a consultant focusing on Managing Innovation and Technology.

Prior to 3M (1950), Mr. Gaynor spent nine years as chief electronics engineer for Bowser Inc. in Chicago, two years as chief electronics engineer for Diversey Corporation in Chicago, and established Electromechanisms Corporation in Skokie, Illinois, focusing on development of industrial control systems.

Gaynor is not only a practitioner in his field, he taught principles of innovation and technology management at the University of Minnesota and St. Thomas University evening programs. He has published more than 50 papers on managing technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, and authored six books published by McGraw Hill, IEEE Wiley, and the American Management Association. His books have been translated in several languages. He has served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Engineering and Technology Management and on the Founding Board of the Academy of Management's Innovation Management Division. Mr. Gaynor is a Lifetime Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

A Fulbright scholar in 1991 and 1993, Mr. Gaynor has been featured in the 22nd edition of Who's Who in the Midwest. He notably earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering at the University of Michigan in 1950 and pursued postgraduate coursework at the University of Maryland.

As 3M's resident in Europe for 3M engineering in various positions he served as project manager for construction of the American School of Milan in Italy. Mr. Gaynor also completed service in the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a second lieutenant from 1942 to 1945.
