Jack Sinclair Bender III was bestowed with the President's Volunteer Service Award from President Barack Obama for contributing more than 4,000 hours of service.

Now retired as a general practice attorney, Mr. Bender has devoted nearly 50 years to his distinguished legal career. Shortly after acquiring his law degree in 1969, he served as an assistant attorney general for the state of Kansas. Joining the Boeing Co. in Wichita, Kansas, in 1974, he served as an assistant secretary, a senior attorney, acting division counsel and in construction management for 25 years until 1999. Mr. Bender subsequently operated a private practice in Halstead, Kansas, for nearly 20 years. In addition to maintaining his practice, he served for seven years as the wing legal officer for the Kansas Wing of the Civil Air Patrol from 2011 to 2018.

Commissioned by the U.S. Air Force in 1966 and designated as a distinguished graduate he enjoyed a long and successful career in the military. Taking an educational delay from active duty for three years during his service to pursue his law degree, he served in active and reserve duty as a judge advocate for the Air Force between 1969 and 1996 and he attained the rank of Colonel. Mr. Bender additionally served as an Air Force Academy admissions liaison officer between 1993 and 2017.

Mr. Bender has found success with other noteworthy endeavors as well, having provided his expertise as an attorney consultant for the Boeing Employees' Association from 1976 to 1999 and a member of the board of control for Boeing's Management Club from 1986 to 1988. He additionally worked as a mobilization augmentee to the General Counsel of the Defense Logistics Agency from 1994 to 1996. Likewise, Mr. Bender has supported various communities in numerous capacities throughout the country including six weeks in New York City with The American Red Cross following the terrorist event of 9/11/2001. He also served on the planning commission and board of zoning appeals for Harvey County, Kansas for 11 years and continues to serve on the Harvey County Parks Advisory Board. Mr. Bender remains affiliated with the Kansas Learning Center for Health as a trustee since 2002 and the president since 2014.

Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Bender pursued an education at Washburn University, earning both a Bachelor of Arts and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1966 and 1969, respectively. In 1968, he additionally participated in a legal studies program at the Institute of Comparative Law in Belgrade, Serbia, formerly part of Yugoslavia, and the law school of the University of London in England. In conjunction with his military service, he graduated from Air University's Air Command and Staff College in 1979 and Air War College in 1989. Admitted to practice law by the Supreme Court of the State of Kansas, the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas, Supreme Court of the United States and the U.S. Court of Military Appeals, he also received a special admission to the Missouri Bar so that he could represent the military in civilian civil and criminal cases as part of an expanded pilot legal assistance program by military lawyers.

Aligned with numerous professional organizations, Mr. Bender is a lifetime member of the Air Force Association, for which he has served as the vice president of veterans affairs for the Wichita chapter. A past president and vice president of the Corporate Counsel Society of Wichita, he maintains his involvement with the American Legion, the Kansas Historical Society, the Military Officers Association of America, the National Trust for Historical Preservation and the Midwest Historical and Genealogical Society, among others. An avid Civil War buff, Mr. Bender often presents programs to Civil War Roundtables, historical societies, schools, and other organizations.

Accruing numerous accolades throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Bender was honored by the faculty of Turner High School in Turner, Kansas, in 1962 with the Danforth "I Dare You" Award, presented to students who exemplify leadership skills and integrity with the potential for great success in life. He was also elected to membership in the National Honor Society and the National Journalism Honor Society. The recipient of a Younger Federal Lawyer Award from the Federal Bar Association in 1973 with the selection committee chaired by former Supreme Court of the US Chief Justice Earl Warren. He was also selected as the Outstanding Air Force Reserve Lawyer of the Year in 1983 and the Kansas Wing of the Civil Air Patrol's Legal Officer of the Year in 2012.

In 2016, Mr. Bender was bestowed with the President's Volunteer Service Award from President Barack Obama for contributing more than 4,000 hours of service, a moment he considers to be the highlight of his storied career. He additionally received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Harvey County Commission in 2019 for "11 years of service on the planning commission and board of zoning appeals." A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been included in the first edition of Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America as well as several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in Finance and Business.

He married Donna LaMar Bender in 1965. They have three daughters: Kelley, Heather, and Marcia, 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
