Having accrued more than 20 years of service in her discipline, Ms. Gonsalves has garnered a laudable reputation as an educator, school administrator, and curriculum development expert. She attended Regis University, graduating in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in English and a minor in theatre arts. Ms. Gonsalves later returned to Regis University, earning a Master of Arts in dramatic literature in 2013 and a Master of Arts in educational leadership in 2015.
Ms. Gonsalves contributed for 15 years teaching secondary-level English and theatre arts before entering academic administration. She became an academic dean in 2017, and was named as the executive director of Independence Academy Charter School in 2019. In this capacity, Ms. Gonsalves has instituted innovative changes to instruction and content delivery, including the implementation of a project-based mathematics program.
Within five years, Ms. Gonsalves hopes to remain with Independence Academy and to continue reinventing instruction in ways that holistically engage middle school-aged learners. She aims to foster a supportive academic community which honors students' emotional and social development as well as preparing them for the educational challenges of high school and beyond.
