Dr. Carrison is an emergency medicine physician who has devoted much of his career to serving the community of Las Vegas and its environs. In recent years, he served as the medical director to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in SWAT and tactical emergency medicine, as well as a certified medical review officer for the police department between 2011 and 2019. He was also the medical director to the Clark County Fire Department in Las Vegas, between 2003 and 2018. Dr. Carrison has maintained activity as the director and attending physician on behalf of the Emergency Physicians' Medical Group at the department of emergency medicine for University Medical Center since 1995, the medical director for the Las Vegas Motor Speedway since 1995 and a clinical professor of surgery at the University of Nevada School of Medicine from 1994 to 2005, then a Professor of Emergency Medicine for the University of Nevada School of Medicine, Reno and Las Vegas from 2006 to 2018. He is now a Professor Emeritus, Emergency Medicine, University of Nevada, Reno.

Well-known throughout his community for his dedication and numerous years of service, some of Dr. Carrison's other noteworthy roles have included serving as chairman of the medical advisory board of the Southern Nevada Health District, medical director for Mercy Air and the EMS Training Center of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas and chairman of the Nevada Commission on Homeland Security. Prior to becoming a physician, Dr. Carrison was the deputy sheriff of Orange County Sheriff's Department in Orange County, California, a special agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigations in Los Angeles and Portland, Oregon, and the president and general manager of his own business, Carrison Enterprises, Inc., in southern California, between 1976 and 1983.

Outside of his full-time commitments, Dr. Carrison has been the medical director of emergency medical services for the National Park Service in Death Valley, California, and for emergency medical services for the Lake Mead Recreational Area in Henderson. He simultaneously served as the regional clinical coordinator for the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in Pomona, California, and as an instructor of the Heckler and Koch International Training Division for Tactical Emergency Medicine in Sterling, Virginia. Moreover, Dr. Carrison was a council member and reviewer for Health Insight in Las Vegas.

Prior to entering college, Dr. Carrison served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Naval Reserve. He later served as a Major and flight surgeon in the Army reserve medical corps between 1987 and 1995. He has notably held an Associate of Arts in police science from Santa Ana College since 1966. Following this accomplishment, Dr. Carrison attended California State Long Beach where he acquired a Bachelor of Science in Criminology in 1968. He then returned to college at California State San Bernardino where he received a Master of Science in Biology in 1983 and then followed by the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific where he attained a Doctor of Osteopathy in 1987.

Additional educational pursuits to Dr. Carrison's credit have included a rotating internship at Flint Osteopathic Hospital in Flint, Michigan, and a residency in emergency medicine at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. He is board certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Furthermore, Dr. Carrison is additionally certified as a medical review officer and as an advanced trauma life support instructor and provider.

Dr. Carrison is an elected fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians. He was likewise a member of several other professional organizations, such as the Council on International Osteopathic Medical Education, where he was the vice chairman for two years. Dr. Carrison is also a member of the Nevada Osteopathic Medical Association and the College Osteopathic Medicine of Pacific Alumni Association as a member and past president.

Accumulating multiple awards throughout his career due to his contributions in medicine, Dr. Carrison was notably named as the Best University Medical Center Hospital Physician in 2018. He has also accrued such recognitions as a 2017 Las Vegas Heals Award, 2015 Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Recognition Award for 20 Years of Service, 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award from the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians, and Nevada Emergency Physician of the Year in 1998.
