A native of Bath, England, he initially pursued an education at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, where he earned a MA in Liberal Arts (1958), MB (Bachelor of Medicine), BCh (Bachelor of Surgery), BAO (Baccalaureus in Arte Obstetricia) and BA, Liberal Arts (1952). Moreover, Dr. Hart is certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology.
From 1956 to 1957, Dr. Hart completed internships at Dr. Stevens' Hospital in Dublin and the Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, IL. He began his career on the staff at Little Company of Mary Hospital from 1958 to 1959, before conducting a residency in otolaryngology at the University of Chicago Hospitals between 1959 and 1962. From 1962 to 1972, Dr. Hart served at the University of Chicago Medical School as an instructor and an assistant professor.
Dr. Hart has additionally served as a member of staff at Northwestern Memorial Hospital from 1972 to 1997, the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago from 1965 to 1997, and the Children's Memorial Hospital from 1972 to 1997. Likewise, he served as a member of staff at the LaGrange County Memorial Hospital from 1977 to 1994 and the Little Company of Mary Hospital from 1977 to 1994. Since 1958, Dr. Hart has worked in private practice specializing in otolaryngology in the Chicago area.
Furthermore, Dr. Hart has worked as a member of the staff at Loyola University Medical Center since 1997. At Northwestern University, he began as an Associate Professor, moving up the scale to Assistant Professor and eventually a full (Clinical) Professorship, now Emeritus. He was also active as a teaching associate of the Cleft Palate Institute. A frequent contributor to professional journals, he has made guest appearances on a number of radio and television outlets. Moreover, Dr. Hart is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a fellow and a past president of the American Neurotology Society, which he considers to be a career highlight.
