Kenneth J. Konchan Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Kenneth J. Konchan has presented annual lecture series for the Ocean County, New Jersey, library system, including "Lessons from the Holocaust" and the "Irish Heritage" Series since 2007.

Mr. Konchan is renowned as a Humanities and History professor with more than 55 years of service in his field. He initially pursued an education at Hiram College, where he graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor of Arts in History. He later completed postgraduate coursework at Drake University, Kent State University, and Akron University in 1966 -68. Mr. Konchan concluded his academic efforts in 1992 with a Master of Arts in Humanities from John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio.

Licensed as a teacher in the state of Ohio, Mr Konchan's career as a teacher and coach began in 1964 at Valley Forge High School, Parma, Ohio, and concluded in 2000. He taught AP classes, wrote curriculum and participated in community activities. He is a member of the Ohio Basketball Coaches Association Coaches Hall of Fame for compiling over 330 wins. He excelled as the owner and the operator at the North Coast Basketball Camp in Oberlin, Ohio, from 1987-2000.

He has found success as a Humanities and Ethics instructor for Cuyahoga Community College in Parma, OH since 1997, and a History professor at the University of Akron since 2003. He also taught Education courses at his Alma Mater Hiram College from 2003-2006. In 2018, Mr. Konchan established The History and Humanities Lectern, Inc., where he continues to lecture and remain active as a curriculum and program consultant.

Mr. Konchan was a member of the planning committee of the Ohio Department of Education and presenter at the Global Institute, The Armonk Institute/Ohio Department of Education Modern Germany Seminars in Columbus, Ohio, and a lecturer at The Ohio Council on Holocaust Education seminars.

He has worked as a consultant on the documentary "The Unimaginable Journey of Peter Ertel," and has presented annual lecture series for the Ocean County, New Jersey, library system, including "Lessons from the Holocaust" and the "Irish Heritage" Series since 2007.

Notably, Mr. Konchan is the recipient of a 1995 study grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to study Hannah Arendt's concept: "The Banality of Evil" and 1996 and 1998 fellowships from the Armonk Institute to continue Holocaust research in Germany preparing two papers "Holocaust Education in Current Germany," and "The Breakdown of Law and Constitutional Authority as a Cause of The Holocaust."

Since retiring in July of 2019 Mr. Konchan resides on Long Beach Island, NJ in summers, and Cornelius/Lake Norman, North Carolina the remainder of the year.
