After working as a teacher for high school and middle school students for over 41 years, Mr. Starling retired from the field of education. Over the course of his career, he gained valuable expertise in education as a science, social studies, wellness, drivers' education and physical education teacher with such institutions as Jefferson and Centennial High , Carver Junior High, and Occidental College, where he served as a coach, in California, and Pinellas County Schools, Florida, Where he became the first African American Head football coach in the County. Although his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Starling is especially proud of assisting his football players in obtaining their college degrees, having encouraged nearly 500 students to graduate.
Moreover, Mr. Starling obtained a Bachelor of Science from Florida A&M University in 1976 from a Football Scholarship prior to embarking upon his professional path. Dedicated to his community, he contributes to those in need during his spare time through the Football Minor League Association and Gibbs High School Alumni Charity. Due to his professional accomplishments, he was nominated for an Outstanding Teacher Award. Looking toward the future. Mr. Staring intends to remain happily retired, travel with Shirley, his Wife and is considering returning to coaching as well.
