Ms. Exposito was born in Havana, Cuba, but left in 1966 with her parents who were successful in escaping Castro's Communist regime in order to raise their daughter in freedom. They joined most of their family already living in Los Angeles, CA. After living through the San Fernando earthquake of 1971, Ms. Exposito and her family relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. During her travels as a young girl, she became fascinated by airplanes and air travel, which greatly influenced her decision to pursue a career in the field. Since 2007, she has excelled as a pilot for Southwest Airlines. Her responsibilities begin before she even enters the aircraft, ensuring the plane is properly maintained and ready to fly.
Prior to obtaining her current position, Ms. Exposito worked as an airline pilot for AirTran Airways, and Atlantic Southeast Airlines from 2002 to 2007. Some of her earliest flying experience was acquired as a flight instructor for The Flight School of Gwinnett, in addition to flying right seat for numerous corporate companies like Aircraft Specialist, Inc. flying a Learjet 25, Corporate Aircraft Partners flying a Jetstream 32, Honey Baked Ham Company flying a Learjet 35, and Panoz Racing Team flying a Challenger 600. During the 1990s, Ms. Exposito flourished as a SCUBA diving instructor for Silent World Dive Center in Key Largo, FL and Low Key Water Sports in St. Johns, USVI. In addition she also worked as a professional certified fitness trainer for Life Fitness Center, and spent a year snow skiing and mountain biking in Winter Park, CO.
Ms. Exposito has earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration and Sculpture, with an emphasis in Philosophy from Georgia State University in 1989. Subsequently, she received her private pilot certification from The Flight School in Gwinnett, GA., her Instrument, Commercial, Instructor, and ATP Certifications from ATP Flight School in Atlanta, GA., fitness trainer certification from Athletics and Fitness Association of America, and NAUI SCUBA diving instructor and NITROX instructor certifications from Hall's Diving Center & Career Institute in Marathon Key, FL. In order to mentor others interested in pursuing a career in her field, Ms. Exposito is affiliated with Women in Aviation and The Ninety-Nines, while additionally contributing to her community as a volunteer through Open Hand, the Ronald McDonald House, and St. Teresa School.
Although her career has been filled with numerous highlights, and her life with an abundance of adventure, Ms. Exposito is especially proud of her initial aviation training, ability to balance both career and family, and just being an integral part of Southwest Airlines. Looking towards the near future, Ms. Exposito would like to be sitting in the captain's seat of both a Boeing 737 and her own Hallberg-Rassy sailboat parked off the coast of Maui.
