Having accrued nearly 50 years of service towards her students, Ms. Comer has distinguished herself as an elementary school educator and reading specialist. Inspired by her own elementary and high school teachers, she resolved to pursue a career working with children and earned a Bachelor of Science from Kent State University.
She began her teaching career after being hired by the Lorain Board of Education. Two years later she retired to become a stay at home mother to her family that eventually included four children. In 1977 she transitioned into an auxiliary reading and mathematics interventionist. From 1987 until 2004 she was a Chapter 1 Title I reading program teacher. Since 2004 she has excelled as an academic tutor and volunteer serving students in the Lorain area.
From 1981 -1984, Ms. Comer completed post graduate courses at Bowling Green University. She took courses at Baldwin Wallace University in 1986 -1987 to complete certification as a reading specialist. During 200 I and 2002, Ms. Comer took postgraduate courses to be certified in the Reading Recovery Program.
Ms. Comer is a former member of the National Education Association, the Ohio State Education Association, the Lorain Education Association and the International Reading Association. She served as the Scholarship Chairman for the Lakeland Women's Club, the American Association of University Women and the Rotary Club of Lorain.
