Dr. Harriet Davis Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Medicine

Dr. Davis specializes in plant-based nutrition as the lead physician with Novant Health Medical Group



Dr. Harriet Davis has found success as a talk show host for the morning radio show "Ask Doctor D" on WVKL 95.7 FM Radio.

Inspired to serve others after her father's death from complications of heart disease, Dr. Davis began her career in the community as a family medicine a physician with Providence Road Family Practice in 2003. Subsequently, she gained valuable expertise in the field of medicine as a site-based medical director of Carmel Family Physicians. After ten years in this position, she served as the medical director of LifeTime Charlotte Proactive Care Clinic before obtaining her current position as the lead physician with Novant Health Medical Group.

A physician who views food as medicine, the majority of her practice is plant-based. Over the years, she has also worked as a tutor for the Athletic Support Program and chemistry laboratory-teaching technician at North Carolina State University. Furthermore, Dr. Davis has found success as a talk show host for the morning radio show "Ask Doctor D" on WVKL 95.7 FM Radio.

An expert in her field, Dr. Davis earned a Bachelor's Degree in chemistry from North Carolina State University in 1993 and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's School of Medicine in 1999. She later completed a residency in family medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School, a primary care sports medicine fellowship at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, and the physician leadership development program at Carolinas Healthcare Leadership Institute. Additionally, Dr. Davis became licensed to practice medicine in North Carolina and Virginia, as well as certified through the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. Davis retains her professional alignment with a number of organizations, including the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians, the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Devoted to her community, she has further flourished with Strive for Five at Wake Forest University. Dr. Davis has been additionally active as a sports medicine team physician for the Winston-Salem Parrots, the North Carolina School of the Arts, the 2002 Seattle Bowl Game, the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System and the North Carolina Athletic Association State 2-AA Football Championship Game, to name a few.

With a plethora of knowledge at her disposal, Dr. Davis has contributed to a number of lectures and presentations over the years, including "Sickle Cell Trait in an Athlete" and "Musculoskeletal Conditions in Pregnancy and Post-Pregnancy" at Wake Forest University, and "The Health Advantages of Consuming a Plant-Based Diet," which she presented at the Bali Vegan Festival in Indonesia. In recognition of her professional achievements, she accepted the NCSU Minority Achievement Award between 1990 and 1993, a Resident Teacher Award from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine in 2002 and a Top Doctor in Family Medicine Award from Charlotte Magazine in 2010 and 2011.
