BLACKSBURG, VA, April 10, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard Arnold has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Inspired by his father, an engineer that was very involved in his community. Mr. Arnold was encouraged to pursue a similar professional path. He began his career with Union Carbide in 1956, with which he remained for nearly three decades as a production engineer, an industrial engineer, a manager of industrial engineering, a plant engineer, a plant manager, a senior management consultant, the director of community affairs and the assistant director of regional public affairs. Subsequently, Mr. Arnold found success with the Management Consulting Services, Inc. as the vice president in 1986 before becoming appointed as the director of state government relations at Honeywell, a post he held until retiring in 1997 from Honeywell.

He then became a consultant with Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, and co-founded a new partnership program between local churches in the US and Eastern Europe, called In Mission Together. He served in this role for 20 years, eventually training other consultants who expanded this program to many other locations in the world, and he became their advisor/mentor. Although his career in this mission area is filled with highlights, Mr. Arnold is especially proud of helping establish the first United Methodist Church in Ukraine and securing funds to build the first new local church building in 75 years in the Czech Republic.

An expert in his field, Mr. Arnold earned a Bachelor of Science in industrial engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1956. He subsequently obtained a Master of Science in industrial engineering from Purdue University in 1966. Throughout his career, he was affiliated with many professional associations, and received many honors, including; Virginia Tech Ut Prosim Society (2019), Citizen of the Year by the Christiansburg/Blacksburg Rotary International (2018), Virginia Tech College of Engineering Academy of Engineering Excellence (2010), Blacksburg United Methodist Church Annual Mission Award (2001), Virginia Tech Academy of Distinguished Alumni, Dept. of Industrial and Systems Engineering (1999) and Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame (1996).

Dedicated to his community and church, Mr. Arnold has served in leadership positions with many local and national organizations. He once arranged for Bishop George Irvine from South Africa to speak at his local church and Virginia Tech about his involvement with Bishop Desmond Tutu and the apartheid movement. In addition to his work with the church, he serves as the President and the co-founder of the New River Valley Leading Lights, a non-profit organization which has honored almost 600 volunteers and distributed funds to the agencies with which they volunteer. Looking toward the future, Mr. Arnold intends to dedicate more time traveling with his wife and to writing a book about his mission activities.
