Dr. Forsythe serves as an independent contractor on behalf of the Thayer Leader Development Group (TLDG) in West Point. Involved in corporate leadership training since 2016, the TLDG is a leadership institute headed by faculty members that include retired senior military officers and former West Point professors. Dr. Forsythe, who notably contributed for 35 years in the U.S. Army on active duty, served in various command and staff positions before retiring as a brigadier general in 2005.

An expert in leadership development, education and training, Dr. Forsythe has worked throughout the length of his career in academia, beginning at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point as a member of the department of behavioral sciences and leadership during the late 1970s. He served as the director of organizational studies, taught psychology, education and leadership, excelled as an associate dean for academic affairs and later became the vice dean for education between 1996 and 2005. Dr. Forsythe also established the Center for Leadership and Organizations Research, where he found success as the director from 1991 to 1996.

In 2005, Dr. Forsythe was recruited by Westminster College, where he held the roles of a professor, senior vice president and the dean of faculty. Appointed as the 20th president to serve the college in 2008, he later retired in 2015. Making a considerable impact during his 10 years on campus, Dr. Forsythe was instrumental in the development and implementation of the Westminster 2020 strategic plan, increased the number of academic programs and student life activities and, among other achievements, greatly improved its national reputation, which resulted in 95% of graduates achieving full-time employment or going on to graduate school within just six months of time.

Dr. Forsythe has held consulting roles with faculty at numerous college and universities in the area of curriculum design and program assessment. He was also an advisor for the Los Angeles Police Department on leadership training and development. Additionally, Dr. Forsythe was responsible for developing a leadership program for the Military Academy in Bangladesh and oversaw an international team that formed the concept for the National Military Academy of Afghanistan.

An award-winning writer, Dr. Forsythe is the author and co-author of over 40 professional publications on leadership and student development, post-secondary education and assessment. He has also contributed articles to various scholarly journals, as well as 10 book chapters and a university-press book. Moreover, Dr. Forsythe received three Best Paper Awards for his works by an established investigator in the division on professional education of the American Education Research Association.

Dr. Forsythe completed a Bachelor of Science at the U.S. Military Academy in 1970. He later attended the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He acquired a Master of Arts in College Teaching in 1977 and earned a Doctor of Philosophy in education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1984.

Awarded a Missourian Award for outstanding contributions in the areas of business, civil leadership and the arts in 2011, Dr. Forsythe was later named as One of 50 Missourians You Should Know by Ingram's, The Kansas City Business Magazine, in 2015. In honor of his military service, he was the recipient of several Commendation Medals, a Meritorious Service Medal, Legion of Merit and Distinguished Service Medal. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Forsythe has been included in the 61st edition of Who's Who in America.
