Aligned with Saint Francis Preparatory School in Fresh Meadows since 1971, Brother Conway taught mathematics and business and later served as the director of computer sciences. Named as the principal of the school in 1983, and then president in 2013. Throughout his career on campus, Brother Conway has served as the secretary of the board of trustees and has remained active as a moderator for the Parents' Guild since 1973. Renowned as a private, Catholic college preparatory school that first opened its doors over 150 years ago, Saint Francis is now recognized as the largest private Catholic secondary school in the country.

Brother Conway's long and distinguished career has resulted in several successful initiatives. He was responsible for establishing a course in computer science and initiated the school's membership into the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS). Additionally, he led a $4 million endowment campaign in 1997, and is currently managing a $10 million capital campaign that will soon include a new art education center, cafeteria, science labs and music facilities. Brother Conway has also been instrumental in various other ways, including serving as the school's spokesperson for the media in 2009 during the swine flu crisis at the local, national and international level.

An avid contributor to his local community, Brother Conway has been an influential figure with several other institutions. Aligned with Saint Francis College on the board of trustees since 1991, he formerly served on the college's alumni board from 1989 to 1991 and as the vice chairperson between 2006 and 2018. He was also active on the board of directors at Notre Dame High School in Connecticut from 2001 until 2007 and maintained involvement as the director at Camp Alvernia, a nonprofit summer camp in New York, from 1977 to 1990. Brother Conway has excelled as a member on the board of trustees at Saint Anthony's High School in New York since 2001. Outside of education, he chaired the board of directors for the HOPE for Youth Foundation, a nonprofit organization in New York, between 2001 and 2005.

Brother Conway graduated from the first graduating class at Bishop Ford Central Catholic High School in Park Slope, New York, in 1966. In 1966, he entered the Saint Francis Novitiate, and later received his habit in 1967, ultimately professing his vows as a Franciscan Brother in 1968. Brother Conway subsequently attended Saint Francis College, where he acquired a Bachelor of Science in 1971 and the Pratt Institute, from which he attained a Master of Science in computer science in 1974. He also received an honorary doctorate from Saint Francis College in 2008. Brother Conway likewise holds certifications in business, computers, mathematics, and administration and supervision.

To remain aware of developments within his field, Brother Conway is currently active with several industry-related organizations. To wit, he has served as the commissioner of the Middle States Association of Secondary Schools since 2012. Moreover, Brother Conway is a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Catholic School Administrators Association of New York State, the New York City Guild of Independent Schools, the NYSAIS and, among others, the National Catholic Education Association NCEA.

St. Francis Prep was the first recipient of the Excellence in Education Award from the U.S. Department of Education for the academic year of 1983 through 1984, during his first year as the principal at Saint Francis Preparatory. Featured in a 1989 edition of Newsday recognizing his work, his school was also recognized as an Outstanding American High School by U.S. News and World Report in 1999 while he was serving as its principal. Moreover, Brother Conway received several other accolades during his tenure, including recognition as an Honorary Outstanding Alumnus of Saint Francis Preparatory School for the Class of 2001, an Outstanding School Administration Award in 2011 and a Best Principal and King of Queens Award by The Queens Courier in 2012. A celebrated Marquis listee, Brother Conway has been included in the fifth edition of Who's Who in American Education.
