Sylvia Ann Stetz Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Ms. Sylvia Ann Stetz was the recipient of a first place award in the Vogue-Butterick-Pfaff Fashion Show Contest in 1993.

An accomplished listee, Ms. Stetz celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Professionally trained in couture and tailoring, Ms. Stetz has served as the proud owner of Sylvia Ann LLC since 1994. In the course of her responsibilities, she has provided various services to clients, including alterations for men, women and children, fully customized dresses for every occasion, including bridal and prom, and custom men's vests. Ms. Stetz also designs custom home décor such as accent pillows and cushions, window treatments and coverlets, often visiting clients' homes to assist with color and design options.

In addition to managing a small business, Ms. Stetz has worked for various companies during her career, including in the custom decorating department at J. C. Penney, as a sewing sales educator for Dralle Brothers and as a salesperson for Saks Fifth Avenue. She has also held various other roles in service, sales and education as well. Among her professional organizations, Ms. Stetz was a member on the board of directors for the American Association of University Women., serving as Vice President of programs. She was a member for several years in two different branches. She was a member of the Ann Arbor City Club in Ann Arbor, Michigan from January 2005 through May of 2009. She served in several capacities on the Executive Board, as Assistant Secretary, Secretary, Secretary to the Finance Committee, Chair of the Ways and Means Committee and Chair of the Bylaws Committee. A Special Committee was appointed to reorganize and reduce the size of the Executive Board. Sylvia served on this committee and developed a plan to reduce the Executive Board by creating a separate Planning Council. Thus, members on the Executive Board were moved to the Council who were responsible for fund raising, events, art, etc., leaving the Executive Board with running the business of the Club. The Special Committee presented the plan to the Executive Board and it was approved. This is still in place today. She currently is a member of The Philanthropic Educational Organizational serving since 2009. Ms. Stetz has been on the board of directors as a secretary, vice president and president. She has served in these capacities from 2011 to 2016. She also served at the State level, on the Amendments and Recommendations Committee from 2015 to 2018. Ms. Stetz chaired the committee in 2018 and attended the State Convention, presenting a workshop she wrote and conducted.

Ms. Stetz' interest and involvement in education has led her to serve as the president of the Plymouth Parent Teacher Organization between 1973 and 1979, and as a representative and vice president of the Plymouth-Canton Community School Council from 1975 to 1979. Furthermore, she excelled as the chairperson of the Helping Hand District Program through the Plymouth-Canton Schools from 1977 until 1982 and a trustee and secretary of the Plymouth-Canton Board of Education between 1979 and 1983. Ms. Stetz has also played an active role on the state and national level with the National Organization of Women by helping the organization attempt to pass the Equal Rights Amendment, to the Constitution of the United States.

After attending junior college, Ms. Stetz transferred to Wayne State University, where she studied family finance, home decor, textiles, and clothing construction. She later graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1963, took additional postgraduate courses at the University of Michigan in 1965 and Eastern Michigan University between 1987 and 1989. Ms. Stetz ultimately completed the program at the Pfaff School of Creative Sewing in Las Vegas in 1993.

Ms. Stetz was named as the Woman of the Year by Jaycettes of Plymouth, Michigan, and Michigan District 30, in 1977. She was later the recipient of a first place award in the Vogue-Butterick-Pfaff Fashion Show Contest in 1993. She flew to Las Vegas to receive the award, spending 10 days in classes at the Flamingo Hotel and was honored at an awards dinner where she had the opportunity to model her winning garment. Inspired by a dream, her project consisted of a three-piece silk outfit with a peacock embroidered on the back and an embellished silk vest. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Stetz has been included in several editions of Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who of American Women.
