Having accrued more than three decades of inimitable experience in the field of political science, Dr. Miller earned the distinguished title of a professor emeritus at Temple University in 2000. Appointed to his role in 1969, he initially began as an associate professor and advanced through several positions at the aforementioned institution, including as the associate dean of the graduate school, president of the faculty senate, chairperson of the department of political science and chairperson of the academic planning council. Additionally, Dr. Miller provided his expertise to the field as a consultant for the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency in Washington.

Leading by example, Dr. Miller counted Richard Falk among his principle mentors. A graduate school instructor, his approach to the study of international politics led the younger man to specialize in the same area of politics, which he found to be particularly exciting. Since retiring, he began devoting more of his free time to writing and painting. Dr. Miller has published over 10 fiction and non-fiction books, as well as several book chapters, journal articles, monographs and book reviews.

Dr. Miller's released works include "Salut! France Meets Philadelphia," which appeared in bookstores in 2020, "City in a Park: A History of Philadelphia's Fairmount Park System" through Temple University Press in 2015 and "Crossing the Line" through Author House in 2010. Of all his books, however, he is most proud of his textbook, "Global Order: Values and Power in International Politics." Published in 1985 through Westview Press, it proved to be an influential and popular read, and has since been revised three times between 1990 and 1998.

Developing his skills as an artist, Dr. Miller's paintings have featured in various art shows throughout Pennsylvania. He received several awards at the Phillips Mill Annual Show and the Tinicum Art Festival, both located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Locally, Dr. Miller has remained active in his community as a member of the board of directors of Alliance Francaise de Philadelphie since 2004 and as the vice-president since 2014.

Coming of age in Dodge City, Kansas, Dr. Miller early became a passionate reader. Fascinated by the stories he observed in local newspapers, he likewise developed an affinity for politics while attending high school. It was during these impressionable years that he took an interest in art and music as well. His mother, notably, was a talented musician who taught piano for many years. He graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in 1959 and 1962, respectively. Dr. Miller received a Doctor of Philosophy in politics from Princeton University in 1966.
