Lauri Anderson Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Mr. Lauri Anderson secured numerous grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities between 1978 and 2005.

Having earned the distinguished title of chairman emeritus of the Department of Language and Literature at Finlandia University since 2013, Mr. Anderson enjoyed a tenured career in education which spanned over 40 years. In addition to serving as the chairperson of the Language and Literature Department at Suomi College of Arts and Sciences on campus, he likewise chaired the English Department at the American Collegiate Institute in Izmir, Turkey. Additionally, Mr. Anderson contributed for several years as a teacher and dean of students at several high schools both locally and abroad and taught at Bornu Teachers' College in Nigeria and Mizpah Mission in Miconesia.

An author of literary fiction, Mr. Anderson has also published articles in various scholarly journals and has found success as a columnist for the Daily Mining Journal, the Finnish American Reporter and the Peninsula News. Some of his books include Heikki Heikkinen, Children of the Kalevala and Return to Misery Bay. Meanwhile, his short story collections include Hunting Hemingway's Trout, Small Winter Wars and From Moosehead to Misery Bay. Mr. Anderson's writings have led to him becoming a topic of conversation at various literary conferences across Europe, Canada and the U.S.

Mr. Anderson attained a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Maine in 1965. Subsequently, he traveled abroad to Nigeria for two years as a volunteer within the U.S. Peace Corps. Upon his return, Mr. Anderson attended Michigan State University, from which he earned a Master of Arts in 1969, and a second Master of Arts at the University of the Pacific in 1971.

As a writer of repute, Mr. Anderson has been a guest of the Hemingway Society, the Modern Language Association, the Michigan Council of the Arts, and many universities. During his career, he served his community as a Democratic congressional campaign committee member. Mr. Anderson secured numerous grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities between 1978 and 2005. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been included in the fourth and eighth editions of Who's Who in American Education and the 23rd edition of Who's Who in the Midwest.
