Having accrued nearly 40 years of inimitable expertise in the field of French history, Dr. Ranum earned the distinguished title of a professor emeritus at Johns Hopkins University in 1999. He joined the history department of the aforementioned institution in 1969, for which he became the chairperson during the course of his tenure.
