SHOREHAM, VT, April 30, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Michael O'Neill with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. O'Neill celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. O'Neill is a retired instrumentation engineer who celebrated a long and successful career with PerkinElmer Inc. in Norwalk, Connecticut, for 36 years. Founded in the 1930's, the company was originally an optical design and consulting business that later moved into the business space of diagnostics, life science research, food, environmental and industrial testing before ultimately becoming a leading manufacturer of analytical instruments. Joining the organization in 1956 shortly after acquiring his master's degree, Mr. O'Neill spent 25 years as an engineer before being named principal engineer between 1982 and 1992. After retiring, he spent several more years in consulting.

Enjoying the opportunity to measure small quantities, energy and temperature, Mr. O'Neill has noted that his years of research proved to be very challenging, yet equally rewarding. As a seasoned researcher in his field, he was responsible for developing a breakthrough method for materials characterization called HyperDSC. He also conducted extensive research in calorimetry, thermogravimetry and mechanical and dielectric analysis. He holds 15 patents in all areas of thermal analysis, as well as one for a power compensation approach used in differential scanning calorimetry. However, it was Mr. O'Neill's first patent for the first scanning calorimeter in 1956 that was the most significant to him because the innovation had a magnitude that was two to three times faster than regular standards.

Mr. O'Neill has contributed multiple articles on the topic of calorimetry in various peer reviewed journals, including Analytical Chemistry. He has also been published in the Van Nostrand Reinhold Encyclopedia of Chemistry for his expertise and was included in the 2004 edition of Who is Who in Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry in Budapest, Hungary. Throughout his career, Mr. O'Neill has attended and participated at various scientific conferences as well.

Becoming a resident of the state of Vermont soon after retiring, Mr. O'Neill became actively involved in his community. Most notably, he volunteered with the Shoreham Elementary School in Shoreham, Vermont, for nearly 20 years, between 1997 and 2015.

Prior to entering college, Mr. O'Neill began studying electricity and electronics. Upon his arrival in the U.S., he attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he received both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in electrical engineering in 1954 and 1956, respectively. While pursuing his degrees, he also spent two years as a teaching assistant on campus.

Mr. O'Neill is a member of The Tau Beta Pi Association, Inc., IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu and Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been cited in the 23rd edition of Who's Who in the East.
