Since 2015, Dr. Ord has excelled as a professor emeritus in the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., having initially joined the faculty as a professor in 1999. Teaching various courses such as business forecasting and managerial statistics, he also served as the dean of faculty from 2004 to 2006. Prior to his tenure at Georgetown, Dr. Ord contributed to the faculty of the Pennsylvania State University as a professor of management science from 1980 to 1999. He further flourished at Penn State as the David H. McKinley professor of business administration from 1987 to 1999 and a two-time chairman of the department of management science and information systems between 1989 and 1999.

Dr. Ord's professional ventures in academia began in 1965 as a teaching assistant in the statistics department of his alma mater, the London School of Economics and Political Science. During his academic efforts at the aforementioned university, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in economics in 1963 and Doctor of Philosophy in theoretical statistics in 1967. Following the completion of his graduate studies, Dr. Ord continued working in the United Kingdom as a lecturer at the University of Bristol from 1967 to 1974 and in a number of capacities for the University of Warwick between 1974 and 1980.

Throughout his distinguished career in academia, Dr. Ord has been an advisor or co-advisor to approximately 20 doctoral students, many of which have gone on to pursue either academic or industry-related professions. He also participated as an organizer and co-organizer for various educational conferences and has provided his wealth of knowledge on dozens of committees as a member as well as a chairman. Furthermore, Dr. Ord flourished as a visiting professor at several academic institutions, including Monash University in Australia, the London School of Economics and the University of Iowa.

Dr. Ord has found great success with his written works as well. A prolific author, he has penned more than 100 scholarly journal articles and has served as a reviewer, referee, associate editor and editor for various publications. Active as an associate editor for the International Journal of Forecasting since 2001 and the Journal of Geographical Systems since 2004, Dr. Ord also co-authored several books, including "Principles of Business Forecasting" in 2012, which appeared in a second edition in 2017.

Among his industry-related memberships, Dr. Ord has been affiliated with the International Statistical Institute, the Decision Sciences Institute and the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences. Moreover, he is a fellow of the American Statistical Association, the Royal Statistical Society and the International Institute of Forecasters. Dr. Ord has also maintained his involvement with the American Statistical Association as the former chairman of the business and economic statistics section and treasurer from 2008 to 2013.

In recognition of his many notable accomplishments, Dr. Ord was presented with a Penn State Faculty Scholar Medal for Outstanding Achievement in 1985 and was both the co-recipient of an Outstanding Theoretical Paper Award and a Best Theoretical/Empirical Research Paper Award at the Western Decision Sciences Institute Annual Meeting in 1989 and 1990, respectively. He was additionally honored by the McDonough School of Business at Georgetown with the Dean's Distinguished Service Award in 2001 and the Faculty Research Award in 2002. Lauded as an Honorary Geographer in 2004 by the American Association of Geographers, Dr. Ord is also a celebrated Marquis listee, having been showcased in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
