Dr. Kathryn Elizabeth McGoldrick has lectured widely in her area of expertise and served on numerous committees and subcommittees.

Long recognized for her inimitable expertise in the fields of anesthesiology, education and writing, Dr. McGoldrick has garnered a laudable reputation for her involvement with the Clinical Learning Environment Review program on behalf of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the accreditation of graduate medical training programs in the United States. She previously worked on behalf of New York Medical College, where she presently bears the distinguished titles of a professor and chairperson emeritus of the department of anesthesiology. Between 2001 and 2016, Dr. McGoldrick held the roles of an advisory dean for student affairs and a residency program director.

Dr. McGoldrick's extensive academic and professional background has also included appointments at Yale University School of Medicine as an associate professor, then professor and chief of ambulatory anesthesiology. Moreover, she distinguished herself as a clinical instructor and assistant professor in anesthesia at Harvard University Medical School, beginning in 1976. Additionally, Dr. McGoldrick maintained involvement with several hospitals between 1974 and 2016, including Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston, the Yale New Haven Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut, and, more recently, the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York, as the director of anesthesia between 2001 and 2013.

Throughout the length of her career in medicine, Dr. McGoldrick has lectured widely in her area of expertise and served on numerous committees and subcommittees. She sat on the board of directors of the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research, was a consultant to the American Society of Anesthesiologists Task Force on Perioperative Blood Transfusion and, among other roles, found success on the advisory board of the GlaxoSmithKline Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting project. Furthermore, she served her community as the president, vice president and a board of trustee member of the Wood Library-Museum of Anesthesiology, where she was notably the recipient of a Distinguished Service Award in 2017 and worked as a volunteer anesthesiologist for Project HOPE, and for the ASA Overseas Teaching Program. Dr. McGoldrick currently serves on the board of the Anesthesia Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to anesthesiology residents.

A prolific author, Dr. McGoldrick has contributed over 130 scholarly articles and abstracts, 85 book chapters and edited or authored 17 books. She has further excelled as an ad hoc reviewer and in several editorial roles for various scholarly journals, including the Survey of Anesthesiology where she was the chief editor from 1995 to 2017. Dr. McGoldrick has also published editorials for various other publications, as well as over 1,300 editorial commentaries.

Dr. McGoldrick received a Bachelor of Medical Sciences degree from Dartmouth College in 1968 and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Cornell University Medical College in 1970. Additional educational pursuits to her credit include an internship in pediatrics at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, a residency in anesthesia at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and a chief residency in pediatric anesthesia at the Children's Hospital Medical Center at Harvard Medical School. Dr. McGoldrick later received an honorary Master of Arts degree from Yale University in 1992, where she later received a certificate for the executive program in the Yale Management Program for Physicians in 1999. She is a licensed physician in Connecticut, New York and California and is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology and the National Board of Medical Examiners.

To remain aware of developments affecting her field, Dr. McGoldrick has been involved with numerous pertinent organizations, including the Society for Ambulatory Anesthesia, where she had served as a past president and former secretary, and was the 2013 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. Moreover, she has served as the president of the Connecticut State Society of Anesthesiologists and the Academy of Anesthesiology, an executive committee member of the International Association for Ambulatory Surgery, and a former member of the board of the Foundation for Anesthesia Education and Research. Further professional memberships to Dr. McGoldrick's credit include the American College of Anesthesiology, the International Association for Ambulatory Surgery, the Connecticut State Society of Anesthesiologists, the World Medical Association, Physicians for Social Responsibility and the Massachusetts Medical Society.
Dr. McGoldrick secured a National Science Foundation research grant early in her career.

Likewise, she received an Honorary Fellowship in 2014 from the College of Anesthesists of Ireland. Recognized multiple times for her accomplishments in the field of academia and medicine, she was named as a Lewis H. Wright Memorial Lecturer in 2018, received a Distinguished Service Award from the Wood Library Museum of Anesthesiology in 2017 and, among dozens of other awards, received a New York Medical College Teaching and Mentorship Award in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Dr. McGoldrick has also been named to Best Doctors in America several times between 2001 and 2014.
