HAWLEY, MN, May 04, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Sharon M. Scapple, Ph.D., with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Scapple celebrates fifty years' experience in her professional network and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Professor Scapple is renowned as a Professor Emeritus at Minnesota State University Moorhead with a specialty area in Children's and Young Adult Literature, and owner of Black Bear Studio, a log cabin art studio for painting and printmaking (complete with a log cabin outhouse!).

Regarding Sharon's educational background, she completed a B.A. degree in English at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1969. After teaching high school English for three years in Marshfield and Shawano Wisconsin, she continued her studies and earned a Master's degree in Secondary English Education, Winona State, 1974, and completed a Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota, 1983. At the time of graduation, Sharon received a Dissertation Award for The Child as Depicted in English Children's Literature, 1780-1820. A 400-page dissertation encompassed an historical, social, literary study of the then popular Moral Tale written for British children. This literature influenced the writing of America's first books for children and adolescents.

Noteworthy throughout Dr. Scapple's career as a university professor is the diversity of her teaching, both in regard to the institutions where she taught, as well as to the numerous courses she developed and taught. Sharon's teaching experience ranges from high school through graduate work and teaching at such fine academies as the University of Minnesota, Metropolitan State University, Minnesota State University Moorhead, University of St. Thomas; as well as Minnesota Community Colleges early on. Courses taught varied from Writing for Children and Young Adults, Picture Books and Their Makers, The Complete Harry Potter, Censorship in American and Teen Literature, Teaching English in the Secondary Schools, Grammars of English to The Beat Generation, Writing About Art, Native American Literature and LGBTQQ Young Adult Literature.

In 2005, Dr. Scapple founded and edited The Great Plains Reading Review, which grew into a website that features reviews of current Children's and Young Adult Literature. Initially, the Review was developed to show students how to write published book reviews.

Of note are two teaching awards Dr. Scapple received: For 1990-91, Outstanding Teacher of the Year at Metropolitan State University, and, in 2005, Excellence in Teaching Award, Minnesota State University Moorhead. As well as presenting critical papers at national and international Children's Literature conferences, Paris among them, Sharon has published scholarship in journals and book-length texts in her field.

Since a teen and alongside her teaching, Sharon has maintained her involvement as an artist and has been featured in group and solo shows in the Upper Midwest for more than three decades. Currently engaged in printmaking at Black Bear Studio, stone lithography a special interest, Dr. Scapple has shown work in B&W photography, the figure, pastel, and abstract painting.

Overall, the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes Dr. Scapple's lifework as teacher, artist, scholar, writer, editor, organic gardener, furniture re-finisher, and collector of toys, children's books and chairs.
