Dr. John Pappas Celebrates 35 Years in Medicine

Dr. John Pappas has always been fascinated by human genetics.



In addition to his primary medical duties, Dr. John Pappas also conducts research on unusual presentations of genetic syndromes and teaches at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine.

    SCARSDALE, NY, May 04, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. John Pappas has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Long fascinated with science since coming of age, Dr. Pappas became passionate about the field of genetics upon learning that the genetic code for all living organisms is largely the same. He studied at the University of Athens in Greece, from which he attained a Doctor of Medicine in 1985, after which he undertook an internship and residency in pediatrics at Beth Israel Medical Center, NY. Subsequently serving as the chief resident of pediatrics, he served two years in the Greek Navy. He came back to the US after the naval service. He married the prominent NYC pediatrician Dr. Camille Senzamici who he met during residency. He completed a fellowship in clinical genetics at Mount Sinai Medical Center, NY. Dr. Pappas presently excels as the director of clinical genetic services at NYU Langone Medical Center.

In addition to his primary medical duties, Dr. Pappas also conducts research on unusual presentations of genetic syndromes and teaches at the NYU Grossman School of Medicine. He has presented on such cases at two annual National Genetic meetings, and his research encompasses children with autism, multiple congenital anomalies and genetic abnormalities, as well as childhood overgrowth and tumor syndromes. Throughout the length of his career, Dr. Pappas has attributed his success to his interest and passion for the field. He was also greatly influenced by Dr. Catherine Manno who is the current chair of the Department of Pediatrics at NYU.

In order to remain aware of developments affecting his field, Dr. Pappas maintains his professional affiliation with various organizations of note. To wit, he is a member of the American College of Medical Genetics, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Society of Human Genetics. Looking toward the future, Dr. Pappas would like to attract more people to work on human genetics and, furthermore, cement his legacy in the field.
