DETROIT, MI, May 06, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Robert E. Sullivan, Jr. with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Robert E. Sullivan, Jr. celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

As a litigation attorney since 1984, Mr. Sullivan has found success representing many top doctors, hospitals, architects, engineers, architecture/engineering firms, municipalities and other businesses in Michigan, while a partner with the Sullivan Ward law firm, where he worked as an attorney for 23 years. He currently serves as the General Counsel and Director of Career Development at the International Institute of Metropolitan Detroit. He has served in the past as an adjunct professor of history at Macomb Community College and has been a guest lecturer and seminar faculty member at various Michigan universities and legal professional organizations. He has written and published many articles on topics in the law, urban planning and Detroit history.

Throughout his career, Mr. Sullivan has also been proud to serve as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Detroit, which he considered to be the highest honor. As an attorney for 36 years, he has been proud to assist innumerable people and organizations. In his current work with the International Institute, he meets on a daily basis people from all over the world, while working with federal programs to assist in international relations and investment in the of growth of Metropolitan Detroit. His work in the past few years has helped more than 1,000 Metro Detroiters gain employment.

While coming of age, Mr. Sullivan developed a fascination for many different subjects. He enjoyed making plastic models of cars and planes, and wooden models of ships. Because he was good with his hands and small details, many adults advised him and he considered becoming a surgeon or architect. However, after growing up during the 1967 Detroit riots and watching his city undergo a period of rapid decline and drastic social transformation, Mr. Sullivan became interested in dedicating himself to community involvement, rebuilding Detroit, and the professional field of urban planning.

While studying for Bachelor of Arts degrees in political science and sociology, Mr. Sullivan decided to pivot toward his preferred subject. He subsequently obtained a Master of Urban Planning degree from the University of Michigan and, owing to his family's tradition of becoming lawyers and judges, he later earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Detroit. While in law school, he served as Managing Editor of the State Bar of Michigan Corporation, Finance & Business Law Journal and received law school scholarships in recognition for his work in that position. He also served while in law school as a law clerk for the U.S. Attorney's Office in Detroit. Mr. Sullivan proceeded to pursue a successful career at the intersection of city planning, zoning, and municipal law, among other areas of the law.

Civically, Mr. Sullivan has been active with the Knights of Columbus, the North Rosedale Park Civic Association, the Detroit Historical Society, and many other civic and charitable organizations through the years. He also served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Wayne County Council for the Arts, History & Humanities (a part of Wayne County government). Professionally, he maintains his affiliation with the American Planning Association, the American Institute of Certified Planners and the State Bar of Michigan. He is also licensed to practice law in the District of Columbia and in various federal courts up to and including the U.S. Supreme Court. Outside of his vocational circles, Mr. Sullivan enjoys such diversions as reading, sports, travel, music, philately, and numismatics.
