Richard G. Fisher, MD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

With more than 43 years of dedication to the practice of Medicine in private practice and academia, Dr. Fisher is renowned as a retired Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Radiology and Interventional Radiology at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas. Retiring in 2012, he currently works as Senior Medical Advisor of Aggredyne Inc , a new company that is marketing its recently FDA cleared platelet analyzer (Aggregometer), which measures platelet aggregation. Dr. Fisher has been with Aggredyne for 9 years and has learned a great deal about the business side of paramedical equipment from this company.

Designated as Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Baylor of College of Medicine in 2015, Dr. Fisher previously ascended from Assistant Professor in 1969 to tenured Associate Professor in 1979.In that same year he was accepted as a Fellow in the American College of Radiology. His primary Academic responsibility was to develop and run an Angiography/Special Procedures program which ultimately became known as Interventional Radiology, in conjunction with an active Resident Physician training program. Numerous new procedures were begun and refined under his tutelage in the Baylor staffed Level 1 trauma facility, Ben Taub Hospital in Houston's Texas Medical Center. Ultimately Dr. Fisher was appointed as a tenured full Professor at BCM in 1996.

Concomitantly, in private practice, he was Chief of Radiology at Kelsey Seybold Clinic in Houston from 1968-1969. He then began as Attending Radiologist at Rosewood Hospital also in Houston, in 1969, with Drs. Lois and Vince Collins-renown Radiologists who had started and ran the Radiology Residency program at Baylor College of Medicine in the 1950's and 1960's prior to entering Private Practice. He ultimately became Chief of Radiology, at Rosewood and President of Collins Fisher Radiology Associates. . In 1981 he served as Chief of Staff at Rosewood and was an active member of the Executive Committee for over 20 years. Subsequently he also served on the Board of Trustees for several years, until the Hospital closed in the year 2000.
Dr. Fisher was born and raised in Windsor Locks Connecticut. He attended the University of Connecticut and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry in 1955.

He was also a member of the Air Force ROTC program and received the rank of Second Lieutenant in the Air force reserve upon graduation. He then began Active duty with the Air Force in 1955 and entered Aircraft Observer School (Navigator/Bombardier) at Ellington AFB in Houston. In June of 1956 he received his Wings and was assigned to the Strategic Air Command at Barksdale AFB in Shreveport La. He spent the next two years as a Navigator with a Combat Ready Crew in air to air refueling aboard KC-97 Tankers. In January 1957 he and his Squadron (The 301st Refueling Squadron, Second Air Force Command), provided the initial air to air refueling hookup for a flight of B-52 bombers who were underway in the "First Ever" globe-circling non-stop flight in history. The bombers were refueled 5 times enroute returning to their home field March AFB in California.

Dr Fisher was honorably discharged from full time Air Force duty in 1958, and began working as a Chemist in Houston Texas. He also joined an Air force Reserve Unit at Ellington AFB and continued flying for another 4 years spending a total of over 2000 hours in the air.

In September 1959 Dr. Fisher entered medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston Texas, graduating as an M.D. in 1963. He Interned at Hermann Hospital in Houston, then returned to UTMB for Residency training in Radiology. Following Residency training he completed a Radiology Fellowship at St Paul's Hospital in Dallas under the tutelage of Dr. Jerry Miller 1967-1968.and obtained Board Certification as a Diplomat of the American Board of Radiology. In July 1968 Dr. Fisher returned to Houston and began his practice career at Kelsey Seybold Clinic as indicated earlier.

Dr. Fisher's notable career achievements include training over 400 Resident Physicians in his 43 year tenure at BCM, authoring more than 60 peer-reviewed publications plus several book chapters including those in 3 editions of the surgical textbook TRAUMA He was also privileged to serve on the BCM Radiology Residency Selection Committee for several years In addition he maintained a voluntary Teaching Staff Position at M.D Anderson Hospital for over 15 years.
As Interventional Radiology developed as a subspecialty, additional certification requirements developed and he obtained a CAQ in Vascular/Interventional Radiology in 1996 and again in 2006.

Dr. Fisher was also active in several medical organizations and served as the president of the Houston Radiologic Society in 1976. Over the years he served on several committees with the Harris County Medical Society and in 1981, he was elected President of the Southwestern Branch of the Harris County Medical Society. In later years he was President of the Cooley Radiologic Society from UTMB and served as a Councilor to the American College of Radiology for 4 years. He also maintained membership in multiple medical organizations throughout his Career, including the American College of Radiology (ACR), the American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS), the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), the Radiologic Society of North America (RSNA), the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology Society of Europe (CIRCE), the Houston Radiology Society, the Cooley Radiology Society, the Texas Radiological Society (50 yr. Member), the Texas Medical Association (TMA) and the American Medical Association (AMA).

Dr Fisher had three children with his first wife Florence and has been married to his current wife, Mary, for 36 years. His children are; Rick, a Captain with Southwest Airlines, Scott an executive with Frontier Airlines and Cheryl, who is a Lawyer and holds the position of Director with SitusAMC.. He has one Granddaughter Kayla, who is a thriving teenager.
