Ms. Magnoli thrives as a writer and disability advocate

AVENTURA, FL, May 13, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Katherine Magnoli has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Magnoli is renowned as a disability advocate and the author of the "KatGirl" book series. Born with spina bifida, a genetic abnormality that she describes as "affecting her spine, not her mind," she has been a lifelong wheelchair user, and had years of experience on the receiving end of stereotypes about persons with disabilities, from patronizing but well-meaning remarks to outright bullying. A natural storyteller, Ms. Magnoli has been writing since the age of four, and creating a book series based on her experiences felt like a natural response.

The "KatGirl" series has already expanded to three books and has been published in Spanish-language editions as well. In addition to the "KatGirl" books, she has also authored a collection of short stories, "Pete the Private Eye," featuring a protagonist who is blind and utilizes Braille and a magic cane to solve mysteries. With books that are bright, upbeat, and honest, she believes her work to be a form of disability awareness outreach and anti-bullying advocacy. In addition to her writing career, Ms. Magnoli plans to establish a nonprofit educational platform named KatGirl and Friends, which will center on the stories of exceptional individuals with disabilities. She hopes to expand it into a nationwide program in the years to come.

Ms. Magnoli holds an Associate of Arts in exceptional student education from Miami Dade College. Likewise, she was selected as an intern for the University of Miami Center for Child Development's Emerging Transformational Leadership Program, a community brainstorming partnership with disability and neurodiversity advocates. Among many recognitions for her work, Ms. Magnoli is the recipient of a Palmetto Bay Advocacy Award, and was proud to be Ms. Wheelchair Florida 2017 as well as a runner-up in the Ms. Wheelchair America Competition.
