Robert James Shackleton Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    NEWPORT BEACH, CA, May 18, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Robert James Shackleton with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Shackleton celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Mr. Shackleton is an international certified public accounting firm executive and current managing partner at Shackleton & Co., Certified Public Accountants, in Newport Beach, California, since 1998. Bringing with him a wealth of expertise, he came from KPMG Peat Marwick in Los Angeles and Orange County, California, where he devoted 36 years to the field.

For the last decade, Mr. Shackleton held a number of other esteemed positions as well. Bob was recruited to serve on Boards of Directors for and chaired significant board committees for two newly formed banking organizations, Commercial Capital Bank and later Opus Bank, both which became significant regional publicly held banks, which were headquartered in Orange County.

Eagle Scout, campus leader, U.S. naval officer, international CPA firm partner and California regulator, community leader, banking director, yachtsman and licensed Captain, but most importantly devoted husband and father to three wonderful and successful children.

Bob Shackleton was born in Louisville, KY in 1936 to parents Robert and Annelle Barrett Shackleton, concert musicians. The Shackletons owned the Shackleton Piano Co., later known as Shackleton's, which at the time was one of the largest and most important music store chains in the South.

Bob attended local public schools and when his father passed away when Bob was six years old, his mother encouraged him to become active in many varied pursuits which included music and sports, as well as Boy Scouts, which became a supplementary father and a passion. Bob considered his becoming an Eagle Scout as one of the most important and rewarding achievements and encouraged both of his sons to become Eagles also. As an adult he became active on the Board of the Orange County Boy Scouts of America, earned the silver Beaver Award and became a Vigil member of the Order of the Arrow.

Bob attended the University of Louisville having been awarded a Naval ROTC Scholarship. He became a member of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity and was active in many campus activities and organizations and was Business Manager of the University weekly newspaper, the Cardinal. He was elected to the National Honorary Leadership Fraternity Omicron Delta Kappa. He graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce and was commissioned an Ensign in the U.S. Navy. He later earned an MBA in Finance at night from the University of Southern California.

Having served on active duty on summer Navy Midshipman cruises during college on the USS Albany, a heavy cruiser and the Battleship USS Wisconsin, new Ensign Bob was assigned to the USS Eversole, a destroyer based in Long Beach, CA and operating in the Western Pacific, as the Supply Officer. He completed his active duty commitment as Commissary and then Disbursing Officer of the US Naval Air Station, Los Alamitos, CA.

While on active duty Bob expanded his college education by taking accounting courses at night at UCLA in preparation for entering the accounting profession. He was hired as a staff auditor in 1961 in the Los Angeles office of Peat, Marwick Mitchell & Co., the then largest CPA firm in the world which would become KPMG. He had a long, 36-year distinguished career, rising to Partner and serving in several management roles and culminating in the Orange County Office, where he was partner in charge of the Audit Department, Partner in charge of Professional Practice and earned the designation of SEC Reviewing Partner. Early in this career he met and married Mary Randall, the love of his life, who had been hired as the first woman audit staff member of any Big-8 National CPA Firm. Late in his career, he was appointed by then California Governor Deukmejian to the California State Board of Accountancy where he served for nine years, two as president.

In Orange County, he served on the Board of Directors of many community organizations including Junior Achievement, Boy Scouts of America, The Lincoln Club and the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce where he served as Chairman of the Board. He has been listed in Who's Who in the World for several years.

Bob and Mary had a wonderful and active family life raising children Scott, David and Nancy at first in Pasadena and moving to Linda Isle in Newport Beach where the activities became very much children oriented involving school, sports, scouting, Charity League and boating.

Boating became a real passion for Bob who became active in the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and Newport Harbor Yacht Club and Balboa Yacht Club where he was a member for many years. The Family owned and actively operated successive large powerboats for years locally at Catalina and Southern California and later in the San Francisco Bay Area and at Tinsley Island in the Sacramento Delta where they became active members of St. Francis Yacht Club. Bob earned a Coast Guard 100 Ton Master's license to enable him to captain their largest yacht, the 82 foot Westport Cockpit Motoryacht Endurance.

As a writer, he co-authored and published his first work, entitled "Audits of Airlines," in 1981.
In 1990, Mr. Shackleton was recognized with a Certificate of Merit from the U.S. Coast Guard for rescuing seven individuals from a burning boat off Catalina Island, CA. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been showcased in over 15 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the West and Who's Who in the World.
