A high-school scholar and athlete, Mr. Cummins notably earned nine varsity letters in football, basketball and track prior to his enrollment in college. Due to his athletic prowess, he was approached by a number of professional football teams, but he did not accept any of their offers because he was newly married and expecting a child. Instead, Mr. Cummins was recruited by General Motors in Dayton, Ohio to work as a supervisor in their Delphia component manufacturing plant.
Over the years, Mr. Cummins advanced tremendously at General Motors, flourishing as a supervisor, a general supervisor and a superintendent. Additionally, he served as a production superintendent in a General Motors plant they had been establishing in Portugal, for which he worked for four years. In pursuit of his career, Mr. Cummins earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering from Cornell University.
Devoted to his community, Mr. Cummins has contributed to those in need during his spare time as a chairman for the local chapter of the United Way. In a career filled with highlights, he is proud to have graduated from Cornell University with records for the most career punt return yards at 606, the highest punt return average, and the second highest interception return for a touchdown at 81 yards. A number of Mr. Cummins' records remain in the top five for the aforementioned university even after 50 years.
Personally, Mr. Cummins is overjoyed at celebrating more than 50 years of marriage to his high school sweetheart. Together, they are the proud parents of three sons and have welcomed seven wonderful grandchildren into their immediate family. Looking toward the future, Mr. Cummins intends to enjoy his well-deserved retirement.
