Barbara Smith is renowned as an artist and educator with more than five decades of excellence in her craft.

Ms. Smith is renowned as an artist and educator with more than five decades of excellence in her craft. She initially pursued an education at Lawrence University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1967. She subsequently earned a Master of Fine Arts at Southern Illinois University in 1975 as well as a Master of Arts from Washington University. Proud to be qualified to teach at the postsecondary level, Ms. Smith values fine arts instruction as a way to emphasize creative problem-solving approaches for all learners.

From 1968 to 1976, Ms. Smith began her career as an art instructor at Horton Watkins High School in Ladue, MO. She further flourished as a leader at the Experiment in International Living in Brattleboro, VT, between 1974 and 1979. Teaching art at the Michigan City Center for Arts Industry from 1979 to 1980, she served as the educational director of the Dunes Art Foundation of Michigan City in 1979. From 1981 to 1983, Ms. Smith worked at the Cleveland Museum of Art as a community instructor.

Since 1986, Ms. Smith has excelled as a visual arts instructor at Villa Duchesne Oak Wood School in St. Louis. She is active as a trustee of the Saint Michael School and Church and participates on the board of directors of the Webster Historical Society. Ms. Smith's works in textile and water media have been exhibited throughout the United States in group and solo shows for more than 40 years.

Moreover, Ms. Smith's exemplary art has been included in exhibitions at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Cleveland Museum of Arts. Currently, she is represented by McCaughan and Burr Fine Art, Limited. Furthermore, Ms. Smith is a member of the National Art Education Association and a docent at the St. Louis Art Museum.
