Still active as a mediator and arbitrator since 2011, his career began in 1968 as an associate attorney for a local practice in Los Angeles. Having subsequently worked for several firms throughout California and Florida, he notably earned distinction as a partner at Sankary and Friedman in Los Angeles and at Freidin, Silber and Friedman in Miami, after which he contributed for eight years in private practice in Coral Gables, Florida, between 1977 and 1985. Reaching the pinnacle of his career in 1985, Mr. Friedman became a general jurisdiction division judge of the Eleventh Circuit of Florida. Likewise, he worked for a year as an administrative judge on behalf of the Appellate Division of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit from 2000 until 2001.
Aligned with the American Arbitration Association as an arbitrator since 2010, Mr. Friedman is possessed of a remarkable passion for his work. Having briefly taught law courses at Northrop University in California during the 1970s, he has contributed various articles to professional journals related to his area of expertise. Mr. Friedman also notably authored the 1976 book, "How to Prove a Profit Motive in Horse Breeding," published by Prentice Hall.
Subsequent to receiving a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at the University of North Carolina in 1964, Mr. Friedman passed the CPA exam while pursuing additional studies. Graduating with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Miami in 1967, he proceeded to attain a Master of Laws in taxation at New York University in 1968. Following the conclusion of his academic efforts, Mr. Friedman was admitted to practice law by the Florida and California Bar Associations. As a civic advocate, he has maintained activity on the board of directors for several nonprofits, including the South Florida Epilepsy Foundation, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation and the Jewish Family and Children's Services. He is a former trustee of the University of Miami Alumni Association as well.
To remain aware of developments affecting his field, Mr. Friedman has maintained his professional alignment with the California Bar Association and the Florida Bar Association. He served on the board of directors for the Spellman-Hoeveler America Inn of Court and is a past chairperson of the leadership council and tax committee of the Los Angeles Bar Association, as well as the Beverly Hills Bar Association. Moreover, Mr. Friedman was a member and judicial director of the University of Miami Law Alumni Association and the B'nai B'rith, where he served in numerous capacities, including as a past chapter president, and regional president of the adult council of the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization.
Mr. Friedman has received several awards in recognition of his civic and career accomplishments. He was honored with an Outstanding Man of the Year Award from the Koach chapter of B'nai B'rith in 1981 and an International Gold Key Award from the B'Nai B'rith Youth Organization in 1992. He also received a Thomas Davison III Service Award from the University of Miami Law Alumni Association in 1993, a Steve Levine Award from the Dade County Trial Lawyers Association in 2002 and has been consistently recognized with an AV rating by Martindale-Hubbell.
