Mr. Bryan is renowned as a musician and educator with more than 40 years of excellence in music performance and direction. He began performing as a singer in choirs in the first grade, and continued learning the trumpet as a high school student. In 1975, he graduated from Texas College with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education. Moreover, Mr. Bryan is certified as a teacher in the state of Texas.
From 1978 to 1981, Mr. Bryan began his career as a music instructor, choir director and an admissions counselor for Texas College. In 1981, he enlisted in the United States Army, attaining the rank of staff sergeant by the time of his retirement in 2001. Over the course of his service, he flourished as a bandsman/trumpet player in the Second Infantry Division Band at Camp Casey, the First Cavalry Division Band at Fort Hood and the Eighth Army Band in Seoul, South Korea. He served in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and also Bosnia in Operation Joint Forge. Since his military retirement, Mr. Bryan has been active as a band director for Fairway Middle School 2001-2009 and Charles E. Patterson Middle School – 2009 to present.
Mr. Bryan's military decorations and awards includes the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Good Conduct Award 6th award. He is proud to have been the first African American band director in the history of Killeen. His band is the only middle school band that marches in every municipal parade the city of Killeen presents. Furthermore, Mr. Bryan is a member of the National Education Association, the Texas State Teachers Association, the Texas Bandmasters Association, Music Educators National Conference, Life Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Life Member of the Korean War Veterans Association, Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Life Member of the Association of the United States Army and Life Member of the First Calvary Division Association.
Mr. Bryan is married to Jill and they have six children: Shay 'La, Arthur II, Jonathan, Christopher, Jeremy and Koryn. They also have six grandchildren.
