Jo Ann Ota Fujioka, PhD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    DENVER, CO, June 23, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Jo Ann Fujioka with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Fujioka celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Driven from an early age to become a nurse and an educator, Dr. Fujioka excelled as a School Nurse from 1971-1976 and Supervisor of school nursing and school health programs from 1976-1979, Special Education and Related Services Area Manager, and an Elementary School Administrator between 1979-1995 with the Jefferson County School District in Golden, Colorado. Since 1995, when Dr. Fujioka founded Fujioka Consultants, she has served as a consultant for various educational services and children's agencies including the Central Kansas Cooperative in Education, Denver Children's Home, the Colorado Association of Family and Children's Agencies, the National Center for Child Abuse, and the Colorado Mediation Project.

Dr. Fujioka began her career in the field of nursing as a public health and psychiatric nurse at Denver General Hospital between 1961 and 1971. Her pursuit of higher education began at the University of Colorado, where a Bachelor of Science in Nursing was conferred upon her in 1961. She continued her education at the University of Colorado on a United States Department of Health, Education and Welfare Scholarship and Stipend for her Master of Science in Nursing. conferred in 1970. Dr. Fujioka graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy from Colorado State University in 1987.

Imminently qualified in her various fields of expertise, Dr. Fujioka is also certified as a registered nurse, an educational administrator, a superintendent, a special education director, a vocational education administrator, and a trainer for sexual perpetration prevention, the latter through the National Center for Child Abuse. She has also written numerous articles for professional journals, including, "School Health Team Model for Delivering Comprehensive School Health Programs," published in the American Journal of School Health. An active and dedicated member within the upper echelons of the Colorado Democratic Party, Dr. Fujioka has also maintained involvement with Cross Cultural Dialogue, Advisory Board of the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame, and the Education Advisory Committee of the Public Broadcasting System.

In her civic endeavors, Dr. Fujioka has contributed to her local community and country in a variety of fashions. She served as a member of the Board of Directors for the National Parent Teacher Association from 2006-2012 and on the Board of Governors for the foundation of Phi Delta Kappa International 2004-2006.

Additionally, Dr. Fujioka served as the President of Phi Delta Kappa International from 2004-2006 and on the Colorado Parent Teacher Association Board of Directors as Vice President from 2008-2010. She is currently Vice President of Advocates for Public Education Policy, Vice Chair for Colorado Democratic Senate District 31, Secretary of Colorado Democratic House District 6 and President of Denver Council Parent Teacher Student Association.

To remain aware of developments in her field, Dr. Fujioka has maintained her professional alignment with various organizations, including the American Association of University Women, the National Organization of Women, the Jefferson County Administrators Association, the American Association of School Executives, the Alliance of Professional Consultants, the Horace Mann Society, the Japanese American National Museum and is a Life Member Phi Delta Kappa International. She has delivered various presentations in support of her advocacy interests on such topics as, '1apanese American Internment Camps" at the Unity Rally for Immigration, as well as at the Denver rally in the Colorado Convention Center for presidential candidate in 2016, Bernie Sanders, presented "Equity and Justice for All" at the Cross Cultural Dialogue, recounted the "Japanese American Internment" at a Colorado capitol press conference for the Ralph Carr bill on "Sanctuary Cities," presented, "Because I was Japanese American" at Phi Delta Kappa International, and numerous presentations on education throughout the world. In light of her inexhaustible energy and qualifications in the field, Dr. Fujioka been bestowed with accolades from numerous organizations of note, including the University of Colorado's Joint Honor Scholarship, Phi Delta Kappa International's Gabbard Institute Scholarship, induction into the Denver North High School Hall of Fame, and the Colorado Parent Teacher Association Life Time Service Key, and many other awards.

Dr. Fujioka became involved in the professions of nursing and education partially because it was expected of her. As a woman coming of age during the 1950's, her career options were limited. However, she found herself drawn to education due to her experiences within the Japanese American internment camps during World War II. Her mother, unable to find treatment because she was Japanese American, passed away from uterine cancer. She was inspired by the words of her father, who told her that education was the one thing that could never be taken from her. Dr. Fujioka became passionate in her drive to revitalize both the health of her patients and the minds of her students.
