Dr. Christopher Lange Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Scientific Research

Dr. Lange specializes in scientific research & education at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University



    BROOKLYN, NY, July 02, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Christopher Lange has been included in this, and many previous years of Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. With decades of professional experience in various scientific disciplines, Dr. Lange excels as a professor of Molecular and Cell Biology and Radiation Oncology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, where he also is the Director of the Department of Radiation Oncology's Radiobiology Division. Dr. Lange also served as his department's Associate Chair and continues as Associate Director of its residency program. Additionally, he shares his expertise with others as an Honorary Consultant to the Holy Cross Oncology Center in Kielce, Poland, as Scientific Advisor to Biofort, Puerto Rico, and as a member of Sigma Xi's College of Distinguished Lecturers.

Early in his career, Dr. Lange gained expertise through various roles. In England, he was a National Health Service Research Officer at the Christie Hospital and Holt Radium Institute. Later, he was an Assistant Professor of Radiology, and of Radiation Biology and Biophysics for the USAEC Rochester Project, at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. Over the years, he has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Honor Society, a Commissioner for the Scholarship Advisory Commission of the Kosciuszko Foundation and was a guest scientist at the Brookhaven National Laboratory. Dr. Lange was also a member of the Translational Research and Pathology committees of the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG, now NRG) under the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health.

In a career filled with highlights, Dr. Lange is proud of his research on the cellular basis of organismal radiation lethality (Studies on the cellular basis of radiation lethality. III. More recently, Dr. Lange showed that latent viral infections can be reactivated by radiation therapy and shown how to prevent this potential problem (Radiotherapy-induced reactivation of neurotrophic human herpes viruses: overview and management. Additionally, he has contributed to more than 250 publications and 100 peer-reviewed research articles. Dr. Lange remains aware of, and contributes to, changes in the field through his affiliations with the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the New York Academy of Sciences, the Radiation Research Society, the Biophysics Society, and the American Association for Cancer Research.

In pursuit of his aspirations, Dr. Lange earned a Bachelor of Science in Physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1961. He subsequently graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in the Faculty of Medicine from Oxford University in 1968. Devoted to his community, Dr. Lange dedicates his time and resources to provide his expertise as an appointed scientific advisor for the New York State Assembly's 13th and 16th Districts.

In light of his outstanding accomplishments, Dr. Lange has been recognized internationally, accepting grants from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Royal Society of London, the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences. He was also presented with a Research Career Development Award from the National Institutes of Health, a Presidential Certificate of Gratitude from the University of Hirosaki, Japan, and a Lifetime Honorary Consultant Award from Swietokrzyskie Centrum Onkologii. Recognizing his vast contributions to Science and Education, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit by the President of Poland, the prestigious Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and features in publications such as Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in American Education. In the coming years, Dr. Lange intends to continue his research, especially in personalizing cancer therapy.
