Doris Jean Williams Brown Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

An accomplished listee, Ms. Brown celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Leading a diverse and successful career for more than 40 years, Ms. Brown has earned distinction as the principal of Brown's Restaurant Servers Academy in Detroit since 1986. Deeply involved with the hospitality business for decades, she has dedicated her spare time to social work, as well as the fields of communications and entertainment. A former talk show host for three radio programs, which have aired on BBC Radio in Canada as well as various college radio stations, Ms. Brown also notably hosted a television show and has appeared in commercials.

As a business professional and entrepreneur, Ms. Brown maintains her own business, Brown Enterprises, as well. She has also garnered a lauded reputation through her work with Brown's Hospitality Service and Sports Education and Art. Working with every type of socioeconomic background, from the very poor to the very wealthy, her career has been exciting and fulfilling on multiple levels. Of particular note, Ms. Brown contributed on behalf of Focus Hope in Detroit, a nonprofit organization that seeks to overcome racism, poverty and injustice for which she hosted a cooking show at the request of the late Father William T. Cunningham.

Devoting her time and expertise to the community of Detroit in various other ways, Ms. Brown has been actively involved with the Easter Seals Society as a volunteer since 1981. She has also been a member of the Muscular Dystrophy Association since 1987 and the Jefferson Avenue Presbyterian Church since 1984. In addition to her service as a Goodwill ambassador for the U.S., she excelled as an executive board member of the Boys and Girls Club, and donated her time to the Girl Scouts of the United States of America. Other civic engagements to Ms. Brown's credit include her efforts with the First Ward Community Center of Saginaw and the Michigan Public Service Organization.

Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Brown pursued a formal education at Saginaw Valley State University, from which she obtained a bachelor's degree in social work in 1977. She also completed postgraduate coursework on campus. She continued her academic efforts with a master's degree in teacher leadership at Central Michigan University. Following this accomplishment, Ms. Brown further accrued a master's degree in hospitality and tourism, and a Doctor of Philosophy in hotel and tourism management.

Eminently qualified in her field, Ms. Brown is a licensed social worker and professional server, an apprentice-level funeral director and embalmer, and a trained labor arbitrator through the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, for which she was one of 25 Americans to be selected. A prolific author, she has penned three books, "The Brown's System Teaches Etiquette and Social Behavior," "Dining At Home" and "Just Think About IT." Ms. Brown has additionally provided her advice for the purpose of several special events on the subject of national public service.

Notably, Ms. Brown was appointed by former governor John M. Engler to the wage deviation board of the state of Michigan. She has been presented with such accolades as a Testimonial Resolution for Outstanding Achievement from the Detroit City Council, three Spirit of Detroit Awards, a Special Tribute Award from the State of Michigan and several Proclamation Awards from the Former Governor Jim Blanchard, Senator John Kelly and Detroit Mayor Coleman Young. In addition to receiving a Gold Medallion High Achievers Award from the State of Michigan and a Testimonial Resolution from the City of Detroit for providing free education and job placement to the homeless, Ms. Brown was honored by the U.S. Air Force with a Special Achievement Award, and by the National Council of American Executives, which count her among their top ranked U.S. Executives.

Ms. Brown was also celebrated with an Outstanding Citizen Award from the city of Saginaw, Michigan, and a Special Award from the U.S. Conservation Corps. A distinctive Marquis listee, she has been cited in several editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Entertainment, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in the World and Who's Who of American Women. Ms. Brown is further listed in the Oxford Who's Who and the International Who's Who of Professional and Businesswomen.
