Dr. Büker-Steinschulte's career began with internships in private veterinary practices throughout Germany and Switzerland, and training as a certified veterinary assistant and falconer. He completed forestry coursework at the University of Applied Science in Hildesheim-Holzminden, Germany, during the 1998 to 1999 academic year, and graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Hanover in 2007. In 2009, he obtained a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Zurich, after extensive clinical work with zoo animals, wildlife, and exotic pets, and the publication of his thesis, "Review About Nutrition, Intestinal Anatomy, and Physiology of Digestion in Marine Mammals." Dr. Büker-Steinschulte continued postgraduate clinical coursework through the University of Zurich until 2011, at which point he accepted a Master of Science in international medical health at the Centre for Tropical Veterinary Medicine at the University of Edinburgh.
Prior to advancing to the head of his practice, Dr. Büker-Steinschulte treated small animals at practices in Werl, Hille-Oberlübbe, and Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock. He also thrived as a zookeeper for the Adlerwarte Berlebeck Raptor Center in Detmold, where he remains involved on the staff as a veterinarian. Since 2017, he has found success as a visiting lecturer at Cornell University, sharing his unique clinical and research experience with the next generation of veterinary professionals. As one of the top voices in his specialty, Dr. Büker-Steinschulte is an active member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the British Veterinary Association, the Swiss Veterinary Association, the Association of Avian Veterinarians, the Lions Club and German recognized Specialist in Avian and Wildlife Medicine.
He is a Swiss qualified mountain guide who has climbed the Mont Blanc, Großglockner, Kimimanjaro and some of the highest Swiss mountains.
