Bobbie Kay Straham Houshiar Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    SAGINAW, MI, July 21, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Bobbie Kay Straham Houshiar with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Houshiar celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. An award-winning teacher of more than three decades, Ms. Houshiar retired in 2005 from the Saginaw Public Schools in Saginaw, Michigan. Employed with the district for much of her career, she began as an elementary teacher and later taught junior high school and middle school students, during which she specialized in language arts. Ms. Houshiar also briefly worked at Saginaw Valley State University as a learning center coordinator and reading instructor from 1974 to 1975 and was a teacher of English as a Second Language for the Refugee Center of Saginaw between 1982 and 1983.

While teaching full-time, Ms. Houshiar provided her time and expertise as a supervisor of student teachers for the Saginaw Public Schools for many years beginning in 1988. She was also an oratorical and writing instructor for the district during 1998. In addition to her commitments at the school, Ms. Houshiar enjoyed nearly a decade as a bilingual students' instructor at Delta College from 1987 until 1996 and as a writing tutor at Michigan University between 1988 and 1990. Likewise, she enjoyed a tenured position as the editor for Young Writers in Michigan from 1989 to 2006 as well.

Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Houshiar received a Bachelor of Arts at Saginaw Valley State University in 1973. She subsequently completed a Master of Arts in elementary education administration in 1975 and received certification in general education administration in 1978 at Central Michigan University. Earning renown throughout her community, Ms. Houshiar has been a volunteer for the League of Catholic Women in Saginaw since 1976. She formerly volunteered for the Saginaw County chapter of the American Red Cross for three years between 1996 and 1999 and was active with the National Women's History Museum and her local nursing home.

As a commitment to her field, Ms. Houshiar has been affiliated with several pertinent organizations. To wit, she is a member of the National Education Association, the Saginaw Education Association, the Michigan Education Association, the National Council of Teachers of English and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. She is also a charter member of the National Women's History Museum and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Among her many awards, Ms. Houshiar has been the recipient of an Accent on Achievement Award and an Excellence in Teaching English Writing Skills Award from the Saginaw Public School Board of Education in 2002, an Educator of the Year Award from the Saginaw Cooperative Hospital in 1999, and a Recognition Award from the Saginaw Infant Mortality Coalition (now Ingham Great Start Collaborative) in 1998.
