Dr. Caldwell has enjoyed a long and successful career in education and counseling, which included positions in Florida and throughout his home state of Texas. Since 1991, after leaving the Killeen Independent School District as an elementary school counselor, he has maintained his own private practice in psychotherapy in Lancaster and Dallas, counseled for the Casa De Los Amigos Run-A-Way House in Dallas, and, among other counseling roles, was a school counselor at Okeechobee Junior High School in Okeechobee, Florida. In respect to education, Dr. Caldwell taught for the Carrollton Farmers Branch Independent School District in Carrollton, Texas, and as a research teacher at North Texas State University's Center for Behavioral Studies in Denton.

Dr. Caldwell served in the American Red Cross in Vietnam and the U.S. Army after the Korean War in 1959. Since that time, he has enjoyed the opportunity to contribute as a volunteer with Veterans Affairs. Dr. Caldwell also maintains membership with American Veterans, or AMVETS, in Texas as a commander and with his local Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Dr. Caldwell pursued an education at the University of North Texas where he acquired both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Education in 1969 and 1974, respectively, after which he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in child development/Psychology at Texas Woman's University in 1988. He is a member of the American Board of Medical Psychotherapists, and has remained active with several other organizations pertinent to his career, including the American Mental Health Counselors Association, the Texas Mental Health Counselors Association and the American Association for Counseling and Development. Dr. Caldwell is also a member of the Masons.
