Today, she excels as a dermatologist and an associate clinical professor of dermatology for Icahn School of Medicine with the Mount Sinai Health System. In her research with Mount Sinai, Dr. Lazic Strugar has evaluated the efficacy and safety of microneedling versus fractional 1550-nm erbium laser in treating striare distensae using 3D imaging and optical coherence tomography.
Previously, Dr. Lazic Strugar gained valuable expertise as a researcher with Boston University School of Medicine's Roger Williams Medical Center, Yale University, the University of Bari, Italy and the UCLA Cancer Center. Additionally, she worked as the chief resident for Roger Williams Medical Center and Boston University. In her efforts with other universities, Dr. Lazic Strugar has conducted studies on the "Anatomy, Physiology and Management of Patients with Diffuse Pulmonary Arteriovenous Malformations" and "The Best Use of Herceptin in Treatment of Breast Cancer."
A member of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dr. Lazic Strugar earned a Bachelor of Science in physiological science from the University of California Los Angeles in 2004. She subsequently graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from Yale University's School of Medicine in 2008. Dr. Lazic Strugar retains her alignment with several honor societies, including Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma, as well as the American Contact Dermatitis Society.
Utilizing her considerable knowledge, Dr. Lazic Strugar has flourished as an editor for the Dermatology Board Review Question Bank. Providing her wealth of knowledge to myriad peer-reviewed articles, abstracts and oral presentations, she has authored such articles as "Multiple apocrine hidrocystomas successfully treated with Botulinum Toxin" for the British Journal of Dermatology and "Connecting the dots: From skin barrier dysfunction to allergic sensitization, and the role of moisturizers in repairing the skin barrier" for the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology. Dr. Lazic Strugar additionally penned "Amyopathic Dermatomyositis in a patient with an extramedullary plasmacytoma of the tongue," which was one of many poster and oral presentations for the American Academy of Dermatology.
Due to her outstanding accomplishments, Dr. Lazic Strugar accepted the Tom Brokaw Award for Life Achievements, Excellence in Patient Care and Scholarly Activities and the Chairman's Award during her dermatology residency in 2012. She was also presented with the Hendrick Bogaard Dermatopathology Award in 2012 and the Outstanding Teaching and Mentorship Award from the Mount Sinai Department of Dermatology in 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018.
