Arlan Lee Rosenbloom Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Dr. Rosenbloom studied at the University of Wisconsin, where he acquired both a Bachelor of Arts and a Doctor of Medicine in 1955 and 1958, respectively. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include an internship at Los Angeles County General Hospital, general practice residency at Ventura County Hospital and a residency in pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at the University of Wisconsin Hospital. Dr. Rosenbloom is board certified in pediatrics, pediatric endocrinology and epidemiology.

Following his general practice residency, Dr. Rosenbloom joined Tom Dooley's MEDICO, as physician and surgeon in Cambodia for a year followed by a year as medical director of a regional program in Central Malaysia. After his training in pediatrics at pediatric endocrinology, he was drafted and joined the US Public Health Service; he was assigned to the CDC West African smallpox eradication program stationed in Yaoundé Cameroon.

Returning to the US, Dr. Rosenbloom, began his tenure as the founding pediatric endocrinologist/diabetologist at the University of Florida College of medicine in Gainesville in 1968 and was promoted to professor in 1974, to distinguished service professor in 1996 and became emeritus in 1999. He established the Florida's Diabetes Camps, the university Diabetes Research Education and Treatment Center and the Regional Diabetes and Endocrine Program for Children. Additionally, he served as the director of the General Clinical Research Center.

In addition to enjoying a long and distinguished career in the classroom, Dr. Rosenbloom was a member of the Epidemiology and Disease Control study section of the National Institute of Health, and served on numerous review panels for the NIH. Dr. Rosenbloom also spent a sabbatical year doing research as a visiting professor at McMaster University Medical Center and later as a consultant epidemiologist at the Boston University Health Policy Institute in West Africa.

Dr. Rosenbloom published I6 papers during his fellowship followed by approximately 420 additional articles and chapters to books since that time. He has also served as a reviewer of manuscripts for over 70 peer-review journals and was an editorial board member for several journals.

Dr. Rosenbloom is a former board of directors member of the American Diabetes Association.

Since 1989, Dr. Rosenbloom has been the international medical director of the Institute for endocrinology in Quito Ecuador. The Universidad San Francisco de Quito has named him Professor emeritus.

In addition to his academic activities, Dr. Rosenbloom has served as an expert consultant in over 150 malpractice, criminal, and other legal cases.

Well-regarded for his years of service, Dr. Rosenbloom has been recognized with multiple awards. To wit, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 2017, The Van Wyk Award from the Pediatric Endocrine Society in 2017 and an Outstanding Achievement Award from the University of Florida in 2011, the Prize for Achievement in Science, Education, & Advocacy on Behalf of Young People with Diabetes from the International Society for Pediatrics and Adolescent Diabetes in 2004, Some of his other accolades have included a Lilly Life Professional Hero Award in 2006, a Distinguished Physician Award from the Endocrine Society in 2003, the Crisis Response Service Award from the U.S. Public Health Service in 2006 and the Qformai Most Influential Doctors Award from USA Today in 2009 and a Blue Key Distinguished Faculty Award from the University of Florida in 1995. He has been recognized by his alma mater, the University of Wisconsin, with the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1995. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Rosenbloom has been showcased in over40 editions of Who's Who in America.
