Having garnered a laudable reputation on behalf of his faith, the Rev. Dr. James P. Baylark serves as the pastor of the First Community Baptist Church in Desert Hot Springs, California. As a dedicated member of his church, he takes on many pastoral responsibilities, including the oversight of planning and preparation of the weekly message for Sunday morning and evening worship. Dr. Baylark also organizes weekly bible study material and works with worship leaders and ministers in planning and coordinating leadership and training classes in order to better influence maturing believers and newcomers. As a child, Dr. Baylark would often accompany his father, James Matthew Baylark, and Lucy Mae Baylark, who were community activists, as they fulfilled necessary tasks for various people within the community. After witnessing his father and mother dedication to service, the younger man was inspired to help others in his own career. He went on to study at California Polytechnic State University, Kansas State University and eventually received a Doctor of Theology from the Sacramento Theological Seminary. Dr. Baylark later served as Pastor at Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Perris, California.
As a respected voice in his community, Dr. Baylark received the Martin Luther King Lifetime Award. He was also named as the Man of the Year and Role Model of the Year and received the Chapter of Year award from the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, and the NAACP Religious Award. He maintains his professional and civic affiliation with the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, 100 Black Men Incorporated, the American Baptist Churches and the National Baptist Conference, USA, Inc. Throughout his successful career, Dr. Baylark has attributed his professional achievements to hard work, dedicated, commitment and vision.
