Diane Toto is the founder and Vice President of the Board of We Care Food Pantry located in Homosassa, Florida. She was born in Queens, New York and raise on Long Island. In her early career, Diane was the President and founder of Sheltered Hollow Property Management Service, Inc. which managed 15 condominium and office complexes in the Hamptons in New York. She was also the founder and President of South Hampton Maintenance Service, Inc. which maintained those same 15 complexes. She was instrumental in writing the maintenance costs for inclusion in the condominium complex prospectus for the Attorney General of New York. Diane organized and headed disaster teams to clear the roadways for emergency vehicles during hurricanes.
In 2004, Diane founded the We Care Food Pantry in Homosassa. We Care started with Diane and friends distributing food out of the back of their vehicles to those in need. Over time, she realized how vast the problem of food insecurity was in her area and knew that she had to do more. Over the past 13 years, We Care has grown to distribute over 3 million pounds of food per year. Diane has built the largest food distribution warehouse complex in Citrus County. We Care grew beyond Diane's wildest dreams and it is now able to help pantries over a four-county area. While her focus will always remain on Citrus County, she has forged partnerships in Hernando, Sumter and Marion Counties as well. Diane currently serves as the Vice President of the Board of We Care and will be the first tell you she is the "voice of the voiceless".
Diane's civic duty does not end with hunger relief alone. She also became the President of the Homosassa Civic Club in 2004, a position in which served until 2010. She was the Chair and Executive Director of the capital campaign for the Feed Citrus County Food Distribution Warehouse from 2004-2010. She became a member of the Citrus County Agricultural Alliance. She was the Chairwoman of the Homosassa Arts, Crafts & Seafood Festival from 2004-2009. She was the Chair of the Christmas Parade of Lights on the River in 2007. She was the Chairwoman of the Homosassa Historic Committee. She served as a member of the Homosassa River Alliance from 2004-2008. She was a delegate to the Citrus County Council.
Diane has been recognized for her great works throughout Citrus County as well. She has been awarded: St. Petersburg Times Woman of the Year in 2005, Homosassa River Alliance Warrior Award in 2006, Homosassa Springs Rotary Paul Harris Award in 2009, Altrusa Women of Impact Award in 2011, Citrus County Chamber of Commerce John Barnes Award, Citrus County Economic Development Council Award of Excellence in 2012, Key to the city of Crystal River in 2013, Healthy Living Magazine's most inspirational people of 2013, Tampa Bay Lightning Community Hero Award in 2016, Association of Fundraising Professionals Philanthropic Woman of the year in 2018, and Daughters of the American Revolution Woman in History Award in 2019.
