Sandra Racine Casserly Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

    CHAMPAIGN, IL, July 27, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Sandra Racine Casserly with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Ms. Casserly celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. Now retired from an impressive career in journalism after nearly three decades, Ms. Casserly initially gained experience as an assistant home editor and broadcaster with WCIA-TV for six years. She was subsequently hired as a columnist for the Champaign-Urbana Guide and as a columnist and reporter for the Champaign-Urbana Courier. Finally, in 1975, Ms. Casserly joined the University of Illinois in the College of Agriculture, where she enjoyed more than 15 years as a radio-TV broadcaster.

As a communications specialist, Ms. Casserly notably co-chaired the Midwest region workshop at Purdue University. She was also involved in various civic efforts as a moderator at the University of Illinois pre-retirement conference, as chairperson of the University of Illinois board of Panhellenic affairs and as an advisory board member for Station WDWS-WHMS in Champaign. Among other roles, Ms. Casserly was the first female lector at Saint Matthew's Catholic Church. She was the first female weather forecaster at WCIA-TV and the first female inducted into the Champaign-Urbana Kiwanis. She was also the first female in the Champaign-Urbana Sports Car Club. She was also the president of the University of Illinois Krannert Art Museum Council.

Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Casserly pursued a formal education at Lake Forest College in 1950. Following this accomplishment, she attended the University of Illinois, from which she attained a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism- Radio in 1954. Ms. Casserly concluded her academic efforts in 1987, having completed postgraduate coursework at the University of Arizona.

To support her career, Ms. Casserly has been active with several professional organizations, including the Agriculture Communicators in Education where she served as the chairperson of national marketing. She has also been aligned with Women in Communications Inc. as a former local vice president, with Kiwanis as a former local chapter vice president and with several honor societies. Ms. Casserly has remained a member of the Junior League of Champaign-Urbana since 1968.

In light of her excellence in the field, Ms. Casserly received an Academic Award of Excellence from her alma mater, the University of Illinois. She was also bestowed with several awards, including a First Place Award for Specialized Writing from the Agricultural Communicators in Education, a Service Award from the City of Champaign Cable TV Commission, a Distinguished Service Award from the University YMCA. A celebrated Marquis listee, Ms. Casserly has been featured in the first edition of Who's Who in the Media and Communication, the 24th edition of Who's Who in the Midwest and the 18th edition of Who's Who of American Women.
