MISSISSAUGA, ONTARIO, July 28, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ashok Kumar Lumb has been included in Marquis Who's Who. After receiving Bachelor, Master's and Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry from Panjab University, India, Dr. Lumb immigrated to Canada in 1972. He joined Dalhousie University, Halifax, Canada as Postdoctoral Fellow and later in 1974, received training in Clinical and Environmental Chemistry at V.G Hospital, Halifax and passed courses in human physiology, biochemistry and Pathology from Dalhousie University. From 1980 to 1983, Dr. Lumb moved to Africa to serve as Head of the Environmental Research Laboratories at National Research Council of Zambia.
After his return to Canada in 1984, Dr. Lumb joined Environment Canada as a chemist at the National Water Quality Laboratories for a decade. During this time, he was responsible for routine water quality analysis and also for the development of new organo-analytical techniques for assessing water quality. He briefly worked (November 1986 to January 1987) as a consultant for the World Health Organization to establish Water Quality Laboratories at the Vietnam Institute for Tropical Technology and Environmental Protection (VITTEP) in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam.
In 1995, Dr. Lumb joined Ecological Monitoring and Assessment Coordinating Office at Environment Canada as a Network Science Advisor and worked for more than 15 years until his retirement in 2012. During this period, he was involved in ecological monitoring and application of Canadian Water Quality Index (CWQI) to assess the water quality. He was an active member of the team reporting Canada's Freshwater Quality annually published under Canadian Environmental Sustainability Indicators (CESI) program. Dr. Lumb published dozens of papers and reports on water quality assessment, ecological monitoring and modified steroids in synthetic organic chemistry.
Between 2001 to 2006, Dr Lumb served as a guest scientific editor and published 3 special issues of the Journal of Environmental Monitoring and Assessment, Kluwer Academic Publishers, Netherlands. He also published a special issue of Environments, a journal of interdisciplinary studies. Overall, Dr. Lumb edited, planned and coordinated with the authors of 75 papers across four different professional journals. In 2011, Dr. Lumb was appointed as an associate editor of Water, Quality, Exposure and Health, a journal published by Springer Publisher in the Netherlands.
As a dedicated professional, Dr. Lumb has attributed his standout success to hard work and his collaborations with various colleagues from different backgrounds in 4 different countries of the world. He aspires to share the lessons he has learned in his career with other people who are interested in his field.
Since 2007, Dr. Lumb has been volunteering at information, cancer and orthopedic centres of Credit Valley Hospital, Mississauga, Ontario. Looking toward the future, Dr. Lumb plans to continue volunteering and travelling with his wife, meet new people and enjoy his life.
