Having earned distinction as a talented and well-versed attorney since 1966, he now limits his practice to commercial and residential real estate, zoning, estate planning and business law. Gaining expertise in the field as a former associate at Nisen, Elliot and Meier in Chicago, Mr. O'Brien subsequently became the president of Capstan Company in Chicago for three years and spent an additional five years as the president of Walter J. O'Brien II, Ltd. in Oakbrook before forming O'Brien and Associates.
Among his other significant legal roles, Mr. O'Brien is a chairperson emeritus of the board of directors for the Attorney Title Guaranty Fund Inc. in Champaign, Illinois, and is likewise the chairperson emeritus of the board of directors of the ATG Trust Company in Chicago. He was also an arbitrator-chairperson for the 18th Judicial Circuit in DuPage County, Illinois. Mentored throughout his career by his uncle, a former defense practice attorney, Mr. O'Brien has equally enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer on behalf of his community.
Involved in various initiatives locally, Mr. O'Brien was a trustee of the Saint Isaac Jogues Church in Hinsdale, Illinois, the vice president of the Oak Brook Civic Association and commissioner of the National Heritage Corridor Commission and the Oak Brook Plan Commission. He was also a member of the Oak Brook Zoning Board of Appeals. Most notably, however, he served to the rank of a captain in the U.S. Army between 1964 and 1966. Named as a fellow of the Illinois Bar Foundation, Mr. O'Brien is also a master member of the DuPage chapter of the American Inn of Court and a member of the Illinois State Bar Association. Moreover, he is a former board director of the DuPage Bar Association as well, where he was named as the Lawyer of the Year in 1988.
To prepare for his legal career, Mr. O'Brien received a Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Notre Dame, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Northwestern University. Following the conclusion of his academic efforts, he was admitted to practice law by the Illinois Bar Association, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, and the Supreme Court of the United States. Recognized as an AV-Rated Attorney by Martindale-Hubbell, Mr. O'Brien is also a celebrated Marquis listee who has been featured in over 20 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the Midwest and Who's Who in the World.
