Dr. Kohlasch is renowned as a retired financial services executive with a career marked by dedication to effective and transparent leadership in the public sector. A gifted mathematics student, she completed accounting and tax coursework when she initially began her postsecondary education, but her plans shifted following a divorce and subsequent relocation to New Mexico. New to the area and searching for a career, Dr. Kohlasch applied with the New Mexico Tax and Revenue Department, with which she was hired as a tax auditor.
Throughout her more than 25 year career with the state of New Mexico, Dr. Kohlasch proved herself to be an invaluable employee as well as a precise and insightful analyst. She continued her education through the University of Phoenix, earning a Bachelor of Arts in information technology and a Master of Arts in global management. In 2017, Dr. Kohlasch graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in organizational leadership and management from the University of Phoenix, an accomplishment she considers to be among her greatest.
While her work for the state of New Mexico was initially focused on taxes, Dr. Kohlasch began to contribute to statewide policy analysis and legislative review projects later in her career, and was eventually appointed by the Governor to serve on the state's Human Rights Commission. She further flourished as a trustee of the New Mexico Public Employees Retirement Association, and was elected as the Board Chair in 2019, was appointed by the Governor to serve on the 19-member task force in an investigation of state public pension funds and strategic planning to ensure the continued availability of state pension monies. Dr. Kohlasch remains fiercely dedicated to community development, and is active in volunteerism and fraternal organizations including the Order of the Easter Star, Prince Hall Affiliation, Order of the Golden Circle, Prince Hall Affiliation, Luxor Court #188 Daughters of the A.E.A.O.N.M.S., Inc., Prince Hall Affiliation, and the Daughters of Navajo Elks of the World, where she excelled as a volunteer auditor.
Moreover, Dr. Kohlasch is a former Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and an Illustrious Commandress of the Luxor Court #188 Daughters of the A.E.A.O.N.M.S., Inc. Prince Hall Affiliation, she was inducted into the University of Phoenix's National Society of Leadership and Success in recognition of her outstanding contributions to public leadership, a member of The Black Doctoral Network Inc., and she attributes her professional success to her sheer determination. Though enjoying her retirement, Dr. Kohlasch looks forward to utilizing her unique background in an advisory role, and hopes to participate on the board of trustees of the Social Security/Medicare Board in the years to come.
