With more than four decades of professional experience to his credit, Mr. Bickel, now retired, has contributed his time and expertise as a senior adviser at Econsult Solution since 2015. He previously excelled as the director of planning at the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission from 2007 to 2014, the director of long-range planning at Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority between 1990 and 1998 and the director of the strategic planning division at DVRPC from 1984 until 1990. Mr. Bickel began his career at the Montgomery County Planning Commission, where he held numerous leadership posts from 1971 to 1984.
In order to remain aware of changes in a field that is always moving forward, Mr. Bickel maintains his involvement as a Fellow of American Institute of Certified Planners, the American Planning Association and the Urban Land Institute. He became interested in his profession after taking an urban geography course at the University of Pittsburgh. Notably, Mr. Bickel obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Mater of Urban and Regional Planning from the aforementioned academic institution.
In recognition of his exceptional undertakings, Mr. Bickel received the Governor's Award for Local Government Excellence in 2005, named as the practitioner Site Visitor of the Year by the Planning Accreditation Board of the American Planning Association in 2010. He was later presented with the Planning Leadership Award for Distinguished Service from the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association in 2015.
