William L. Norton III has been inducted into the Marquis Who's Who Registry

    NASHVILLE, TN, August 05, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- William L. Norton III has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Mr. Norton is one of the country's foremost experts on business bankruptcy law, celebrating over three decades of practice and teaching. The son of a bankruptcy judge, he knew at a young age that he would follow his father's path into the law, and credits his father's mentorship with helping him choose his specialty. Mr. Norton attended Vanderbilt University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in economics and business administration in 1975. He served his country honorably to the rank of a lieutenant in the United States Navy between 1975 and 1979, and would remain in the United States Navy Reserves until 1984, advancing to the rank of a lieutenant commander and before his military retirement.

Following his transition out of active duty, Mr. Norton returned to Vanderbilt University, earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1982. During that same year, he joined the firm of Watkins, McGugin, McNeilly & Rowan, where he had a general commercial practice until 1984. He departed the firm to specialize in bankruptcy law and become a member of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, rising to the role of a partner in 1990. During this period he became a manager and lecturer at the Norton Institutes of Bankruptcy Law, a facilitator of continuing education seminars in bankruptcy law and related topics, and remains in practice focusing on insolvency, creditor rights and chapter 11 bankruptcy. Eminently qualified in his field, Mr. Norton is a certified business bankruptcy law specialist and Rule 31 Mediator in the state of Tennessee, and has been admitted to practice before the state and federal courts in Tennessee, the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

In 1998, Mr. Norton became an adjunct professor of law at his alma mater, Vanderbilt University. In addition to his teaching at Vanderbilt, he has led more than 100 seminars for the Norton Institutes of Bankruptcy Law and has presented for organizations, such as the American Bar Association and the United States Department of Justice. Mr. Norton is likewise the Editor in Chief of the Norton Bankruptcy Law and Practice 3d (Thomson Reuters) and serves as the editor in chief of the Norton Journal of Bankruptcy Law and Practice and the Norton Bankruptcy Law Advisor newsletter.

As one of the top voices in his specialty, Mr. Norton has held a variety of leadership roles with pertinent organizations, including terms as the president and board chair of the Nashville Conflict Resolution Organization, the Mid-South Commercial Law Institute and the American Board of Certification, the chairperson of the Individual Chapter 11 Subcommittee of the American Bar Association's Business Bankruptcy Committee, vice president of the Nashville Bar Association, and founding president of the Tennessee Turnaround Management Association, among many others. He is also a fellow of the Nashville Bar Foundation and the American College of Bankruptcy, and has been recognized for his legal excellence with such accolades as the M&A Advisor's 2019 Chapter 11 Reorganization of the Year Award and the Tennessee Turnaround Management Association's 2016 Outstanding Turnaround Professional Award. As a part of his commitment to community development, Mr. Norton is extremely active in local charitable initiatives. He is a longstanding member of the Downtown Nashville Rotary Club and the West End United Methodist Church, completing numerous service projects for each, a Scout leader, and a 18 gallon blood donor to the American Red Cross.
