Mr. Sharp previously distinguished himself as a research and development officer and associate research professor at his alma mater, the Colorado School of Mines. Enjoying a long and successful career in his industry, he formerly worked for Geomines as the director of mine planning. Additionally, Mr. Sharp held various positions with Direction des Mines et Carrieres in Lubumbashi, Zaire, and the U.S. Bureau of Mines in Denver.
Outside of his full-time commitments, Mr. Sharp oversaw his own business as the president of Golden Energy and Minerals. He also provided his time and expertise as a quality assurance officer for the Earth Mechanics Institute, was an operations manager for the Colorado Institute for Fuels and Engine Research, and served as the U.S. representative for the Namibian Small Miners Association in Africa. As a researcher in his field, Mr. Sharp notably contributed numerous articles to several scholarly journals.
An expert in computer programming, Mr. Sharp was able to make great progress in the mining industry by blending his skills. In retirement, he enjoys staying active in the field and soon plans to host presentations at area high school students to discuss science and engineering. Moreover, Mr. Sharp will also be tutoring and coaching people seeking to follow his career path.
As a member of the Boy Scouts of America growing up, Mr. Sharp became very interested in rocks, an affinity that persisted as he grew older. Once he graduated from high school, he was fortunate to attend the Colorado School of Mines, where he acquired a Bachelor of Science in engineering in 1962. He also attained a Master of Science in mathematics at the university in 1972. Prior to completing his degrees, Mr. Sharp served his country in the U.S. Army between 1957 and 1961.
Aligned with several community organizations and programs over the years, Mr. Sharp was a member of Westernaires, a mounted precision drill organization, and SPACE '92 in Denver. He received an honorary degree from the Russian Academy of Sciences in recognition of his work. A celebrated Marquis listee, Mr. Sharp has been cited in the fifth edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering and the 23rd edition of Who's Who in the West.
