Kevin Scott Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Veterans Healthcare

Mr. Scott channels his personal experience as a veteran into his work with the Detroit John D. Dingell VA Medical Hospital



    DETROIT, MI, August 11, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Kevin Scott has been included in Marquis Who's Who. With considerable academic expertise in Criminal Justice, having earned a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science (Magna Cum Laude) from North Carolina Central University, Mr. Scott's expertise have allowed him to excel as a Peer Specialist with the Detroit John D. Dingell VA Medical Hospital. His innovative philosophies and utilization of evidence based therapeutic models have gleaned tremendous success with assisting fellow Veterans in articulating their goals for recovery, conceptualizing person centered coping skills and self-help strategies, and candidly confronting the barriers that grossly impede the optimum quality of life. Additionally, he volunteers as a Veteran Peer Mentor for the Honorable Judge Shannon A. Holmes for the 36'h District and the Honorable Judge Gene Hunt with the 19th District Veteran Treatment Court, respectively. Mr. Scott is also a Founding Ambassador for the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network providing information on a myriad of Mental Wellness resources and community partners to those in need.

Prior to his current role with the Detroit John D. Dingell VA Medical Hospital, Mr. Scott served as an Educational Consultant for numerous Departments of Education across the country evaluating and scoring year-end standardized state testing such as: the Michigan MEAP, the Connecticut Mastery Test, the Tennessee TCAP, New Jersey Skills (ASK), and the Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium. Mr. Scott has been offered educational opportunities as a High School Substitute/Special Education Teacher, Instructor of Continuing Education Wayne County Community College, MEAP Prep Coach Woodward Elementary, Tutor for Detroit Public Schools, and Graduation Coach with the Detroit Education Achievement Authority. In all, Mr. Scott has provided professional expertise as an educational and/or private vendor to a total of 28 elementary, middle, and high schools in the Detroit community for the last two decades.

Considered by many in his field as a subject matter expert on Veteran issues such as, Veteran Crisis and Trauma, Mental Wellness, The Psychological Impact of War, and Successful Living Post Home1essness, Incarceration, Alcohol and Substance Abuse; Mr. Scott remains vigilante to changes in the field by maintaining affiliations with a number of organizations such as, National Association of Peer Specialist, National Council for Behavioral Health, Copeland Center, National Alliance on Mental Illness, Michigan Association of Treatment Court Professionals, National Association of Drug Court Professionals, Justice Clearinghouse, Commission Correctional Healthcare Professionals, ACLU Smart Justice Initiative, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated.

In addition to his numerous awards and ribbons as a decorated Marine (Sea Service Ribbon, National Defense Medal, Meritorious Mast Citation, Marine Expeditionary Medal, and Good Conduct Medal), Mr. Scott has been honored with distinction as Best Practice Mentoring Award from the Fathers and Families Coalition of America, Certificate of Appreciation (Detroit VA, Wayne State University Medical Department), Certificate of Volunteer Excellence, Detroit Police Department, and National Peer Support Certificate of Recognition. Looking towards the future, Mr. Scott intends to embark on a lecturing circuit introducing his restorative evidence-based training platforms focusing on Justice Involved Citizens, Veteran Peer Mentoring, and Individuals Impacted by Trauma.
